Hikers discovered the body of a man off a hiking trail near the nature center parking lot, 1750 N. Altadena Dr., at 6:30 a.m. Nov. 8. The hikers alerted nature center staff and called 9-1-1, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “A handgun was discovered at the scene. At this time, it is unknown if this shooting is criminal or accidental in nature,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau in a written statement. The shooting occurred May 23 in the 1500 block of North Lake Avenue around 4:10 p.m. Officers found two men wounded by gunfire. Ray Magee Jr., 24, died at a hospital. A 23-year-old man is recovering from his injuries, according to the Pasadena Police Department. There were at least two suspects involved in the shooting. Both escaped in a 2017 silver Dodge Charger that featured tinted windows. The last two numbers on the license plate are “50,” Pasadena Police said.
One suspect is a Black man believed to be 25 to 30 years old, has a light complexion, weighs 170 to 180 pound and stands from 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. All three suspects, described as Pasadena residents, were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon: 24-year-old Antonio Lizarraga, 30-year-old Michael Vasquez and a teen male. An argument between people occupying three vehicles led to a shooting near Morton Avenue and Mountain Street around 8 p.m. Friday. The victims were unharmed, drove from the shooting and fled on foot. They ran to officers searching for the source of gunfire, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
After receiving vehicle descriptions, officers located and stopped one suspect vehicle near Maple Street and Los Robles Avenue. Two suspects were taken into custody. The second suspect vehicle crashed into a tree near Forest Avenue and Claremont Street. After a lengthy search, the third suspect was arrested, Pasadena Police said. The shooting took place around 4:11 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Lake Avenue May 23. Both victims, one 24 and the other 23 years old, were treated on scene by Pasadena fire paramedics and hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Pasadena Police Department. “Preliminary investigation revealed both victims were stopped in their vehicle in the area when a late model sedan drove behind them and fired multiple times into their vehicle,” according to the Pasadena Police Department in a written statement.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - A man was arrested last week, accused by investigators of gunning down a Pasadena man found dead on Angeles Crest Highway. 30-year-old Daniel Cervantes, from Pasadena, was found and arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service in the 1600 block of Brigden Road in Pasadena. Cervantes was arrested around 12:15 p.m. November 7 and is being held without bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records.
A motive is still being sought in the killing of 22-year-old Julio Robles-Castaneda, whose dead body was discovered by a driver on Angeles Crest Highway near mile marker 26.87 November 6. Cervantes made an initial appearance in Pasadena Superior Court November 12. He is next scheduled to appear in court December 4. The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Navarro Avenue and Howard Street. The victims were located in 1700 bock of Newport Avenue -- several blocks away, Pasadena Police said. All three victims suffered injuries not considered life threatening. Police initially responding to a shots fired call found a vehicle damaged by gunfire. It is unclear if a suspect or suspects have been identified yet. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - A $20,000 reward has been reinstated for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in a four-year-old murder. Robert Arthur Calderon, a 27-year-old Altadena man, was found dead in the 600 block of North Mentor Avenue December 18, 2015. He died from multiple gunshot wounds. A description of the suspect or suspects is either unknown or is not being released. The reward originally expired in April 2018. Pasadena Police Lieutenant Jesse Carrillo said the reward will hopefully reinvigorate witnesses to come forward.
“Our detective worked diligently in his efforts to bring the individual(s) responsible to justice, and unfortunately time and lack of cooperation became the challenge,” Carrillo said. Investigators believe the shooting death of 35-year-old Tyrone English was a gang shooting carried out by the Pasadena Denver Lane Bloods gang, Pasadena Police said. English was shot dead February 28, 2013 around 8:42 p.m. in the 600 block of North Mar Vista Avenue. English was shot multiple times, Pasadena Police said. Kamryn Stone was identified as the man shot outside the Pasadena Rose Bowl several hours after a UCLA Bruins football game. Still hospitalized is a 51-year-old man from Los Angeles, according to the Pasadena Police Department. The man hospitalized was listed in stable condition.
Officers were called around 11:20 p.m. to Arroyo Boulevard and Seco Street regarding a shooting. Both men were taken to a hospital where Stone was declared dead, Pasadena Police said. The stadium and parking lots were empty when the shooting took place, according to Pasadena Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian. While police believe one or both victims were targeted, a motive was unknown. |
