Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - Four people were injured Tuesday night in a brief and possibly related series of stabbings and a shooting. A 21-year-old man received minor injuries after a suspect slashed at him with a knife during a confrontation inside the victim’s home in the 1600 block of North Raymond Avenue at 8:40 p.m., said Lt. Pete Hettema of Pasadena Police. Officers were initially called to shots fired at the victim’s home, but they learned the victim first awoke to find four men and a woman inside. One of the suspects brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s cellphone, which was given up. The victim received a minor cut on his torso after giving up the phone, Hettema said. The victim called out to a 74-year-old occupant, a possible family member, who chased the male suspects out of the home. The 21-year-old followed the suspects into the neighborhood until he stopped and ducked behind a parked vehicle after gunfire rang out, Hettema said. As the 21-year-old returned home, the remaining female suspect was using a knife to threaten the 74-year-old. She eventually cut the 74-year-old as well, causing minor injures, Hettema said.
The female suspect fled in the same direction as her accomplices. At 9:53 p.m., a 14-year-old Pasadena boy claimed to have been stabbed by one of two teen suspects, both 17, who approached him on the street at El Sereno Avenue and East Howard Street. The male suspect reportedly drove up to the victim, exited the car, professed he was a gang member and stabbed the 14-year-old in the back, Hettema said. The suspects fled in a newer black Honda four-door as the victim ran away. The 14-year-old suffered a serious injury and was hospitalized, Hettema said. Just after midnight, officers responded to a nearby hospital for a reported gunshot victim. The 18-year-old Monrovia man who was shot and a female friend were driven to a hospital by a Good Samaritan from North Raymond Avenue and East Howard Street, Hettema said. The female friend said she and the 18-year-old were standing at the street corner when a car pulled up. One of the occupants opened fire. The occupants in the vehicle were only described as Black, Hettema said. The victims reportedly are mostly uncooperative with details of the incidents. “How accurate any of these statements are, we don’t know. Our detectives will be following up,” Hettema said. Some of the victims had past gang affiliation. It is unclear if a gang feud may be occurring, Hettema said. |
