Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - Police announced the arrest of a Los Angeles man accused of fatally stabbing an apartment manager Friday. Telly Johnson, 41, was taken into custody at a residence in the 1900 block of Cordova Street just before 9:30 p.m. March 1 in Los Angeles. Pasadena detectives asked the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force to conduct surveillance on the location, according to the Pasadena Police Department. Pasadena detectives served a search warrant at the Los Angeles home and took Johnson into custody without incident.
Johnson was booked on suspicion of murdering Byron Young Nettles, 52, who was attacked outside the apartment he lived in and managed, the Pasadena Police Department said. The stabbing occurred just after 9 a.m. March 1 in the 100 block of South Euclid Avenue. Nettles was transported to a hospital where he later died. Johnson fled after the attack, prompting a lengthy search in surrounding neighborhoods and the lockdown of nearby Mayfield Junior High School. Pasadena detectives believe the stabbing was not a random act and are establishing a connection between Nettles and Johnson as well as a motive. Johnson is being held in lieu of $2 million. County booking information did not reveal an impending court date. |
