A man in his mid-30s called 9-1-1 and said he wanted to hurt himself by jumping off a tall structure August 25, according to Sgt. Patrick Coussa of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. The incident unfolded just before 11 a.m. Deputies attempted to keep the man on the phone to stall him in an attempt to locate him, but he ended the call. Deputies were able to obtain a general location of his cell phone signal, Coussa said.
Deputies began searching a general area and had the California Highway Patrol search the nearby 60 freeway Grand Avenue overpass. The man was found walking along Grand Avenue. He then walked into traffic and laid down on the asphalt, Coussa said. Deputies arrived and detained the man who eventually admitted himself for a mental evaluation, Coussa said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Firefighters are extinguishing a small brush fire spreading to some trees. The fire is reported in the 16700 block of Gale Avenue. The fire is 50 feet by 50 feet wide and is affecting large trees nearby between a parking lot and a nearby structure, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire, dispatched at 4:01 p.m., is not threatening any nearby structures. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - A transient was booked on suspicion of arson of property Sunday after allegedly burning an American flag at a roadside memorial. Scott Kennard, 41, was spotted by a California Highway Patrol officer, and displayed what was deemed as out-of-place behavior as Kennard loitered at Valley Boulevard and Turnbull Canyon Road. “The CHP Officer saw the suspect grab the American Flag and shield it with his hand. Immediately, flames were seen erupting from the flag,” according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The flag could not be saved as it was consumed by flames. A new flag, however, was placed at the memorial. Kennard is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Deputies arrested a man Sunday morning accused of burning a flag at a roadside memorial. The as-of-yet unidentified suspect allegedly torched the American flag at the David Marin Romero memorial plaque at Valley Boulevard and Turnbull Canyon Road May 12. The suspect torched the flag around 10:10 a.m. and was detained by deputies within minutes. A passerby witnessed the alleged arson and called deputies. The suspect walked away from the scene on Valley Boulevard before being detained, according to Lt. Marquez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Marquez did not yet know a motive for the arson. The plaque and flag honor fallen CHP Santa Fe Springs motor officer David Marin Romero, who was cut down in the line of duty Friday September 23, 2005. Romero was stopped at a red light on northbound Turnbull Canyon Road, prepared to turn left onto Valley Boulevard when he was hit from behind by a DUI driver at nearly 60 miles per hour. Romero and his motorcycle were ejected across the intersection. Romero died at County/USC Medical Center after being flown for treatment. The crash was dispatched to firefighters just before 1 p.m. May 10 at East Valley Boulevard and South Stimson Avenue. Three occupants were trapped, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A newer white van and what appeared to be a silver truck collided. The truck flipped on its roof. A helicopter was called to transport at least one victim to an area trauma center. Ground ambulances were called to transport others. The package was discovered around 2:47 p.m. There are no reports of people feeling sick or injured, according to Lt. Chris Garcia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Los Angeles County firefighters were dispatched at 3:21 p.m. to DPSS headquarters, 12860 Crossroads Pkwy South.
Employees have evacuated the building, according to firefighters. Hazmat units with the Los Angeles County Fire Department are en route to assess the package. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - A woman was hit over the head with the butt of a handgun in an attempted carjacking Sunday afternoon. A male and female were involved in the successful robbery and attempted carjacking. The victim was approached from behind and struck with the gun. An iPhone8 and a set of keys were taken from inside the victim’s vehicle at Valley Boulevard and Fullerton Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. April 28.
The male suspect is in his 20s to 30s and is described as Hispanic, stands about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds, wears black hair and wore a dark long-sleeve shirt. The female suspect is in her 20s to 30s and is described as Black. She wore a black headband. The suspects fled south on Fullerton Road in a grey or off-color gold SUV. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - A Sig Alert has been extended until at least 3:30 p.m. after a trailer hauling 28,000 pounds of rims overturned on the eastbound 60 freeway off ramp at Azusa Avenue Tuesday. The container and chassis overturned around 11:30 a.m. The off ramp remains closed while the Sig Alert is active, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two engines from the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to the scene at 11:28 a.m., but it is unclear if any one was injured. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station is investigating the crash, the CHP said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Four suspects escaped on the 605 freeway northbound after robbing a 7-Eleven Thursday morning. The robbery occurred at 7-Eleven, 2600 Pellessier Pl., before 1 a.m April 4. At least one suspect was armed with a stainless steel handgun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspects fled in a white 2006 Dodge Ram truck, but not before the armed suspect brandished a weapon at a second victim, deputies said.
All four suspects were described as men between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall. They wore dark ski masks and dark clothing. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Two Men stole an iPhone from their victim on Hambeldon Avenue Monday, April 1. The robbery occurred just before 10 a.m. at Hambeldon Avenue and Valley Boulevard. The suspects took the red iPhone in a clear case by force and fled on foot, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspects fled north on Hambeldon Avenue, east on Hurley Street and out of view.
The suspects are Black men in their 20s, about 6 feet tall, have thin builds and wore afros. One suspect wore a green hooded sweatshirt. The second wore a red shirt and dark pants. |
