An alleged drunk driver crashed a white Prius through the front entrance of the 7-Eleven, 1003 S. Baldwin Ave., around 10:30 p.m. Friday and through the convenience store. Four customers inside the store were treated for injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Multiple bags of chips and some cases of Pacifico did not survive. The uninjured driver, a 53-year-old Arcadia resident, was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. His name was not publicly released. The crash occurred at the 7-Eleven, 1003 S. Baldwin Ave., just after 7 a.m. The car went straight through the front doors and destroyed several shelves of items, going completely inside the convenience store. City inspectors were called to survey the structure and determine the safety of the food within, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. A vacant apartment building went up in flames October 8 just before 10 p.m. at 128 Wheeler St. The fire was eventually designated as a third alarm, requiring many additional resources from surrounding fire departments, including Monrovia, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, San Marino, San Gabriel, Montebello, Glendale and the Arcadia Police Department. One firefighter received a minor injury and was treated at the scene, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. Firefighters shifted their focus to a defensive strategy, and worked to protect nearby structures from the fire, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. 61 firefighters stuffing 21 units and all responded to the scene, according to the Acadia Fire Department. The cause is still under investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - A patient suffered moderate injuries Thursday and was pulled from a confined space nearly 70 minutes after possibly falling 22 feet off of a ladder and into a vault at Santa Anita Park, authorities said.
First responders were called to Santa Anita race track, 285 W. Huntington Dr., September 15. The patient was alert and conscious during the rescue, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. An extensive rescue operation was enacted that included venting the vault space with clean air, monitoring the condition of the surrounding air for contaminants and hazardous conditions And rigging advanced rope systems to extricate the patient, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. The patient was treated immediately after being rescued and was given a pain management, intravenous therapy, Cardiac monitoring and splinting of injuries, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. The rescue operation was conducted by urban search and rescue teams from Arcadia, Monrovia and Pasadena Fire Departments, Glendale Fire Department hazmat team and an air and light team from the South Pasadena Fire Department. The second-alarm fire burned in the apartment complex, 2607 S. Santa Anita Ave, just after 4 a.m. June 13. It is not immediately clear if a cause has been determined. It took firefighters more than one hour to fully extinguish the flames, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. Assisting agencies included the Monrovia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Gabriel and Los Angeles County Fire departments. Firefighters did however rescue three family members from the burning home in the 1900 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched around 6:06 p.m., according to the Arcadia Fire Department. Upon arriving, firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames from the rear of the home and reports of trapped occupants, the Arcadia Fire Department said. The victim has not been publicly identified. The cause is under investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Officers arriving to a vehicle collision into a house Monday night found no traffic collision, but rather an explosion from a concentrated cannabis lab, Arcadia police said. Police were dispatched at 10:50 p.m. November 18 to a home in the 2500 block of South Second Ave. A wounded man was found inside the house. He was transported by Arcadia firefighters to a nearby hospital. Hazardous materials were found within the house, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Preliminary investigation revealed a concentrated cannabis lab operating within the home.
“HAZMAT agencies responded to assist at the scene. Nearby residents were briefly evacuated until the scene could be deemed safe by HAZMAT personnel,” Arcadia police said in a written statement. The car was sent into the storefront of Arcadia Main Florist, 30 W. Las Tunas Dr., around 3:15 a.m. August 8. The driver of the rented Hyundai Elantra, an adult male, died at the scene. The driver was westbound on Las Tunas Drive from Santa Anita Avenue and struck the center median which. The vehicle careened into the floral shop, according to Sgt. Larry Peralta of the Arcadia Police Department. No one else was in the car. The structure fire was dispatched at 5:25 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Sixth Avenue. Flames have cause potential damage to adjacent structures, including an unspecified number of outbuildings, according to Arcadia Fire Department radio traffic. Arcadia firefighters report multiple intersections around the fire are out. |
