The HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes of traffic remain closed during cleanup and an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP responded to a report of a possible silver Saturn blacked out and stalled in the HOV lane. Sometime before 4:53 a.m., a collision occurred, according to CHP traffic logs. At 5:09 a.m. all lanes were temporarily closed. By 5:12 a.m., the No. 4 lane and the right shoulder were opened to traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - All eastbound lanes west of Baldwin Avenue on the 210 freeway in Acadia will be closed for at least eight hours after one person was found dead at the scene of a collision that was possibly tied to a freeway shooting, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP responded to the scene at 9:05 a.m. September 4, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol. Nicholson has preliminary information on a possible suspect vehicle involved but is waiting from a investigators on scene to develop better information before publicly sharing a description of the vehicle involved. All eastbound traffic is being diverted off at Michillinda Avenue. Nicholson was unaware of other injuries involved in the crash. Whether the victim died from the crash or from possibly being shot is not immediately known. The solo collision occurred in the area of Las Tunas Drive and El Monte Avenue at 11:37 p.m. February 21. When officers arrived, the driver was dead. Two passengers suffered minor injuries, according to Lt. Jeremy Lachenmyer of the Arcadia Police Department. The crash occurred on southbound Baldwin Avenue near Las Tunas Drive just before 2 a.m. The collision between the tanker hauling milk and the parked vehicles caused a temporary closure of both southbound lanes of Baldwin Avenue, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The driver reported no injuries, Arcadia Police said. The Arcadia Police Department supports the new effort from the Office of Traffic Safety that aims to educate all drivers that ‘DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze,’” the Arcadia Police said.
Nationally in 2016, 37,461 people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes, and 28 percent (10,497) died in crashes where a driver had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) over the limit of .08. California reported 1,059 DUI deaths at .08 or above, Arcadia Police said. The California Office of Traffic Safety is assisting Arcadia Police with the checkpoint. The collision occurred just after 2:10 p.m. A grey sedan possibly spun out and struck other vehicles in the No. 2 lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Arcadia firefighters responded to the scene and used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the driver from the grey sedan, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. The No. 3, 4 and 5 lanes were briefly blocked while the female driver was extricated, the CHP said. The crash was reported in the area of Colorado Street and Chelsea Road around 3:26 a.m. After officers arrived, the driver, a Los Angeles resident, admitted he smoke marijuana six hours prior, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The 35-year-old driver was taken into custody and was briefly hospitalized to be medically cleared before being booked. The suspect, 19-year-old Rome Washington of Los Angeles, was stopped in the 400 block of West Duarte Road around 1:34 a.m. for driving with his high beams on, Arcadia Police said. Upon contacting Rome, the officer witnessed the cloud of marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle, Arcadia Police said. “Through a series of field sobriety tests, the officer determined the suspect was driving under the influence of marijuana,” Arcadia Police said in a written statement. Washington was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI and for a felony warrant. No injuries were reported after the semi and trailer turned over just before 6 p.m. across all lanes of the eastbound 201 freeway. Police responded to the area of Duarte Road and Baldwin Avenue around 1:20 a.m. regarding numerous vehicles “obstructing the intersection and driving recklessly,” said Sgt. Tony Juarez of the Arcadia Police Department. Officers dispersed the large crowd, which fled north on Baldwin Avenue and onto the eastbound 210 freeway where the drivers briefly impeded traffic before finally moving, Juarez said.
