CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Four people were arrested June 9, after allegedly attempting to establish residency at someone else’s home June 9. The four suspects were confronted by the homeowner who called police to report a possible burglary in progress in the 400 block of Walnut Avenue. During a physical altercation, the homeowner fired a handgun into the air in fear of his life. One suspect was arrested outside the home, the others fled in a vehicle, but were found and arrested, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Officers were called to the home around 11:45 p.m. The homeowner called police and said he could see people inside of the home. He confronted them as they exited, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Those involved in the physical fight were treated for minor injuries, according to the Arcadia Police Department. “Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the suspects had taken over the residence, and were attempting to establish residency. All four suspects were arrested and charged with residential burglary,” according to the Arcadia Police Department in a written statement. Arrested were Uried Benitez, a 32-year-old man from Los Angeles; Stephanie Burwell, a 35-year-old woman from Baldwin Park; Phyllis Cheong, a 29-year-old woman from Los Angeles and Marisa Williams, a 31-year-old woman from Long Beach. Police said a burglary occurred at a residence in the 00 block of West Wistaria just before 2:53 p.m. Two vehicles were seen fleeing the neighborhood. One vehicle was abandoned near Sierra Madre Villa and the 210 freeway where four suspects fled on foot, but were arrested, according to the Arcadia Police Department. A second vehicle fled onto the west 210 freeway. It made it all the way to East Los Angeles where one suspect was arrested, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Arrested were:

Both suspects, 30-year-old Rosemead man Dan Lopez and 38-year-old Tao Mach of Diamond Bar, were detained during a traffic stop after officers were alerted that the vehicle the suspects were in had entered the city, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Officers were alerted to the vehicle entering the city at 4:06 a.m. December 23. Both suspects were booked on a variety of charges, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Officers discovered the items during a traffic stop in the area of Camino Real Avenue and Santa Anita Avenue. The traffic stop was conducted around 3:14 p.m. December 22. Arcadia Police detectives and a local task force investigated the vehicle, tied to a previous burglary, and a second vehicle, believing an additional burglary occurred. “Officers later attempted to locate the additional burglary, but they were unsuccessful. During a search of both vehicles, a burglary tool seen on video from yesterday’s burglary, and suspected stolen property, were found. Additionally, unique clothing tied to another burglary was located,” according to the Arcadia Police Department in a written statement. Given the evidence discovered, detectives believed the suspects intended on committing another burglary. Officers attempted to stop the U-Haul seen leaving the area of a burglary alarm call in the 11000 block of Clark Street December 17 around 3 a.m., according to the Arcadia Police Department. “Officers conducted their initial investigation and discovered property from the victim business, a sledge hammer, bolt cutters, and flashlights,” according to the Arcadia Police Department in a written statement. A West Covina man and a Los Angeles man were both arrested. Amongst the charges are commercial burglary, evading a peace officer and possession of burglary tools. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA – An Oxnard man already on probation for robbery was put behind bars December 9 after fleeing officers with a stolen package in tow and attempted to steal a vehicle after breaking into a resident’s home in North Hollywood.
The package, unbeknownst to the suspect, was a bait package featuring a hidden GPS device that alerted officers. The package was taken from the 200 block of East Magna Vista Avenue around 3:13 p.m., according to the Arcadia Police Department. Officers tracked the suspect’s movements through multiple cities. A brief pursuit was initiated into Burbank, but the chase was cancelled after the reckless suspect crashed into another vehicle and continued to flee, according to the Arcadia Police Department. A police helicopter was used to track the suspect into North Hollywood where he collided with two parked vehicles. He fled on foot. “While fleeing, the suspect entered a home in the 6600 block of Lernay Street in North Hollywood. He confronted the resident inside, stole car keys, and ran from the home,” according to the Arcadia Police Department in a written statement. “The suspect attempted to steal a vehicle parked on the street but was unsuccessful.” Residents chased the suspect who continued to run. He hid in a rear yard in the 6600 block of Morella Avenue in North Hollywood where officers arrested the suspect without further incident. A search of the suspect’s vehicle revealed the bait package and multiple other pieces of stolen property. He was booked on suspicion of grand theft, evading a peace officer, burglary attempted vehicle theft, hit and run and for multiple outstanding warrants. The suspect, an Oxnard man, was held in lieu of $360,000 bail. Officers were called to Chase Bank, 60 E. Huntington Dr., October 29, around 10:29 p.m. after being alerted to glass being broken at the business. The suspect escaped through the front doors and to a nearby commercial building, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The suspect, 34-year-old Abel Lopez, was found in a nearby parking lot and arrested and booked on suspicion of commercial burglary. A witness told police of a burglary at Papa John’s Pizza, 1312 S. Baldwin Ave., around 5:11 a.m. May 14. The suspects fled in a white van east on Naomi Avenue, but officers caught up to them, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The three unidentified suspects were arrested after officers concluded they were involved in the burglary, Arcadia Police said. Two of the three suspects also had arrest warrants from other cities. They were booked on suspicion of burglary and for weapons crimes, Arcadia Police said. The unidentified suspect attempted to pry open the rear door of a home in the 700 block of Callita Street at 4 a.m. May 3. He fled on foot once he set off the alarm, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The resident was able to witness the crime through security camera footage as the suspect failed to breach the locked door. Responding officers located the suspect at 712 Callita Street and he was taken into custody after an investigation. The home burglary unfolded in the 1400 block of Glencoe Drive around 7:15 PM October 13. The resident claimed that he and at least one of the three suspects opened fire at each other during the confrontation, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Police found no evidence substantiating that gun fire occurred. The three suspects, only described as possibly white or Latino males wearing hooded sweatshirts, fled the scene on foot and disappeared. No suspect vehicle was seen.
