Three residents died and two were taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. First responders were called to the 5300 block of Tyler Avenue in unincorporated Arcadia just after 1 a.m. January 2. The fire possibly started in an attached garage. Firefighters arrived and found smoke and fire showing from both the house and garage. The fire was knocked down by 1:31 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. One of the fatalities is described as a man who apparently ascended a staircase to the second floor where two victims were trapped. A vacant apartment building went up in flames October 8 just before 10 p.m. at 128 Wheeler St. The fire was eventually designated as a third alarm, requiring many additional resources from surrounding fire departments, including Monrovia, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, San Marino, San Gabriel, Montebello, Glendale and the Arcadia Police Department. One firefighter received a minor injury and was treated at the scene, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. Firefighters shifted their focus to a defensive strategy, and worked to protect nearby structures from the fire, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. 61 firefighters stuffing 21 units and all responded to the scene, according to the Acadia Fire Department. The cause is still under investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA – Crews extinguished a fire that burned in a two-story complex Sunday morning that left no one injured.
The second-alarm fire burned in the apartment complex, 2607 S. Santa Anita Ave, just after 4 a.m. June 13. It is not immediately clear if a cause has been determined. It took firefighters more than one hour to fully extinguish the flames, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. Assisting agencies included the Monrovia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Gabriel and Los Angeles County Fire departments. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - An 84-year-old man was found dead after firefighters extinguished flames inside an Arcadia home Wednesday.
Firefighters did however rescue three family members from the burning home in the 1900 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched around 6:06 p.m., according to the Arcadia Fire Department. Upon arriving, firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames from the rear of the home and reports of trapped occupants, the Arcadia Fire Department said. The victim has not been publicly identified. The cause is under investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Authorities have issued evacuation orders for all residents north of Elkins Avenue and east of Santa Anita Avenue Sunday morning. Residents are advised to use Santa Anita Avenue as an evacuation route. Fort hose who need it, an evacuation center has been set up by the Red Cross at Santa Anita Park 285 W. Huntington Dr. Enter through Gate 5, Arcadia city officials said. The Bobcat Fire grew fast overnight as flames continued to burn through vegetation westbound and closer to foothill neighborhoods. The fire entered Chantry Flats and Big Santa Anita Canyon September 12 and has made significant progress towards the Mt. Wilson area. The fire is well established inside Chantry Flats. In Monrovia, authorities encouraged the occupants of as many as six residences on Cloverleaf Drive to voluntarily evacuate due to approaching flames. The Bobcat Fire has burned 31,991 acres and is still 6 percent contained. It continues to burn mostly north and south., according to the U.S. Forest Service
The fire is not wind-driven and is progressing through terrain and fuels, which have not burned in at least 60 years, the U.S. Forest Service said. Firefighters worked to protect structures in the Chantry Flats area. Sierra Madre authorities have instituted Red Flag parking restrictions along the following roads/areas: Mt. Wilson Trail, Churchill Road, Skyland Drive, Fern Glen, Fern Drive, Idle Hour, Canyon Crest Drive, Orange Drive, Woodland Drive, Brookside Lane, Sunnyside Lane, Yucca Trail, Holly Trail, Sturtevent ad Elm, Pleasant Hill, Old Ranch Road, Forest lane, Casey, Madre, Hermosa north of Carter, Auburn north of Grandview, Canyon Drive, Oakcrest, Carter, Mt. Wilson north of Mira Monte, Alta Vista, Vista Circle and Woodland. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Officers arriving to a vehicle collision into a house Monday night found no traffic collision, but rather an explosion from a concentrated cannabis lab, Arcadia police said. Police were dispatched at 10:50 p.m. November 18 to a home in the 2500 block of South Second Ave. A wounded man was found inside the house. He was transported by Arcadia firefighters to a nearby hospital. Hazardous materials were found within the house, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Preliminary investigation revealed a concentrated cannabis lab operating within the home.
“HAZMAT agencies responded to assist at the scene. Nearby residents were briefly evacuated until the scene could be deemed safe by HAZMAT personnel,” Arcadia police said in a written statement. The structure fire was dispatched at 5:25 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Sixth Avenue. Flames have cause potential damage to adjacent structures, including an unspecified number of outbuildings, according to Arcadia Fire Department radio traffic. Arcadia firefighters report multiple intersections around the fire are out. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - A kitchen fire was handled by the sprinkler system at a seafood restaurant at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall early Friday. Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 1:42 a.m. to EMC Seafood & Raw Bar, 400 S. Baldwin Ave., February 15. Firefighters reported a small kitchen fire that was eventually extinguished by the restaurant’s sprinkler system, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. The extent of damage was not immediately known. |
