The HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes of traffic remain closed during cleanup and an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP responded to a report of a possible silver Saturn blacked out and stalled in the HOV lane. Sometime before 4:53 a.m., a collision occurred, according to CHP traffic logs. At 5:09 a.m. all lanes were temporarily closed. By 5:12 a.m., the No. 4 lane and the right shoulder were opened to traffic. There were no apparent signs of forced entry into the location. There is no suspect information, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. ARCADIA - Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating what led to the shooting deaths of a man and woman Sunday morning. The deaths were discovered in the 600 block of Huntington Drive just after 11 a.m. September 5. Investigators have not yet shared if this is possibly a murder-suicide or some other crime. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - All eastbound lanes west of Baldwin Avenue on the 210 freeway in Acadia will be closed for at least eight hours after one person was found dead at the scene of a collision that was possibly tied to a freeway shooting, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP responded to the scene at 9:05 a.m. September 4, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol. Nicholson has preliminary information on a possible suspect vehicle involved but is waiting from a investigators on scene to develop better information before publicly sharing a description of the vehicle involved. All eastbound traffic is being diverted off at Michillinda Avenue. Nicholson was unaware of other injuries involved in the crash. Whether the victim died from the crash or from possibly being shot is not immediately known. The L Line has since resumed normal service. “There were no explosives that were found. Our Arson/Explosives Detail used their methods to make sure there was nothing in there, however we may still want to question the individual that left it there,” Montenegro told SGV CityWatch. ARCADIA - Bomb squad technicians have been called to investigate a suspicious item reportedly placed on top of a parked Sheriff’s patrol vehicle at the L Line Arcadia station Saturday morning. Road closures are in effect immediately near the Arcadia L Line station, 200 N. 1st Ave., as deputies await the arrival of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail, according to Ramon Montenegro, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The Metro Emergency Security Operations Center notified deputies around 8:40 a.m. after discovering the suspicious item on top of the patrol vehicle through a security camera, Montenegro told SGV CityWatch. Montenegro declined to describe what the item looks like. A bus bridge is being requested for passengers, as there is no L Line service to or from the Arcadia station, according to The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. “There’s CCTV footage in the area and our investigators are reviewing it now,” Montenegro told SGV CityWatch. Residents are advised to use Santa Anita Avenue as an evacuation route. Fort hose who need it, an evacuation center has been set up by the Red Cross at Santa Anita Park 285 W. Huntington Dr. Enter through Gate 5, Arcadia city officials said. The Bobcat Fire grew fast overnight as flames continued to burn through vegetation westbound and closer to foothill neighborhoods. The fire entered Chantry Flats and Big Santa Anita Canyon September 12 and has made significant progress towards the Mt. Wilson area. The fire is well established inside Chantry Flats. In Monrovia, authorities encouraged the occupants of as many as six residences on Cloverleaf Drive to voluntarily evacuate due to approaching flames. The Bobcat Fire has burned 31,991 acres and is still 6 percent contained. It continues to burn mostly north and south., according to the U.S. Forest Service
The fire is not wind-driven and is progressing through terrain and fuels, which have not burned in at least 60 years, the U.S. Forest Service said. Police have entered the rear yard of a home and discovered a conscious man in his 20s shot in the back and his left leg. Several people remaining in the rear yard are being cleared out, according to Arcadia Police radio traffic. The shooting was reported around 8:50 p.m. Two of several vehicles seen fleeing the neighborhood at high speed were stopped. One SUV had a spent shell casing inside. The driver is detained, according to Arcadia Police radio traffic. Arcadia Police are being assisted by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies. One person has been detained, according to the Sierra Madre Police Department, which is assisting Arcadia officers with a yard-to-yard search. The search is being conducted in the area of West Floral Avenue and Rodeo Road. The search for the fleeing pursuit suspects began some time before 6 p.m. near the 210 freeway and Santa Anita Avenue. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - Homicide detectives are looking for what they call a stolen vehicle taken from a woman believed to have been murdered. The victim, only described as a 76-year-old Asian woman, was found not breathing in the rear yard of her home in the 300 block of East Forest Avenue just before 7 a..m. April 9. The woman was declared dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Chyong Jen Tsai of Arcadia, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The woman’s death was initially deemed suspicious, but detectives have not said how she died. A cause of death will be revealed by the county coroner.
The woman’s white 2005 Lexus RX 300 is missing from the location, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau. The Lexus sports license plate number 5LOG473. No suspect description or motive is known at this time. Officers arrived and found the female’s body in the rear yard of the home, according to Lt. Mike Castro of the Arcadia Police Department. It is not yet clear why the death is deemed suspicious.
Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are en route to investigate, Castro said. Robert Anthony Padilla was found after a search in Temple City October 16 led investigators to Silver City, New Mexico. Padilla is being held in the Grant County Detention Center in New Mexico and is awaiting extradition on felony charges, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Padilla, 27, bail has been set at $1.45 million. Investigators with the Arcadia Police detective bureau said DNA evidence collected after the September 8 sex assault pinpointed Padilla as a suspect. Padilla is accused of approaching his victim from behind when he forced her to behind a bush or hedge where he sexually assaulted her in the 2300 block of Santa Anita Avenue September 8. While Padilla was fleeing from authorities, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. |
