The car was sent into the storefront of Arcadia Main Florist, 30 W. Las Tunas Dr., around 3:15 a.m. August 8. The driver of the rented Hyundai Elantra, an adult male, died at the scene. The driver was westbound on Las Tunas Drive from Santa Anita Avenue and struck the center median which. The vehicle careened into the floral shop, according to Sgt. Larry Peralta of the Arcadia Police Department. No one else was in the car. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ARCADIA - A driver had to be extricated from a grey sedan after multiple vehicles collided on the westbound 210 freeway west of Santa Anita Avenue. The collision occurred just after 2:10 p.m. A grey sedan possibly spun out and struck other vehicles in the No. 2 lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Arcadia firefighters responded to the scene and used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the driver from the grey sedan, according to the Arcadia Fire Department. The No. 3, 4 and 5 lanes were briefly blocked while the female driver was extricated, the CHP said. The crash was reported in the area of Colorado Street and Chelsea Road around 3:26 a.m. After officers arrived, the driver, a Los Angeles resident, admitted he smoke marijuana six hours prior, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The 35-year-old driver was taken into custody and was briefly hospitalized to be medically cleared before being booked. The victim, a 52-year-old Arcadia woman, was crossing the street in the 1100 block of West Duarte Road around 3:27 p.m. when she was struck. Paramedics treated the woman at the scene and took her to a nearby hospital where she died, according to Lt. Mike Castro of the Arcadia Police Department. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured, Castro said.
Arcadia Police collision investigators had Duarte Road between Sunset Boulevard and Oak Avenue blocked to traffic for nearly three hours. The roadway was opened by 6:15 p.m., Arcadia Police said. Sergio Regalado, 25, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence with prior convictions and felony evading officers, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Pasadena Police attempted to stop Regalado around 9:13 p.m. after a Good Samaritan followed him from the 110 freeway to Pasadena city streets. Regalado sped away from officers. Due to his erratic driving, a helicopter tracked his movements, Pasadena Police said. Sheriff’s deputies began pursuing Regalado as he entered their jurisdiction. Deputies followed Regalado from Old Ranch and Huntington Drive as he nearly hit pedestrians, ran red lights and sped along city streets. The pursuit went into San Gabriel where Regalado almost got caught in a cul-de-sac, but he wormed his way past deputies to keep the pursuit alive. Regalado crashed into two civilian vehicles at Huntington Drive and Baldwin Avenue in Arcadia. One of the civilian vehicles flipped and came to rest on its side. Both Regalado and a driver in one of the other vehicles were both briefly hospitalized. The vehicle damaged a portion of May Mei Restaurant, 639 W. Duarte Rd., around 2:19 p.m. when the vehicle was driven through a large plate glass window, according to the Arcadia Police Department. The 65-year-old woman behind the wheel was not arrested. No injuries were reported. The crash occurred at Holly Avenue and Huntington Drive at 5:03 a.m. It was unclear if the civilian ran a red light or was speeding at the time of the crash. Officers were still investigating the collision, according to Lt. Vaughn Whalen of the Arcadia Police Department. Both the officer and civilian were hospitalized as a precaution and only received minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained moderate to heavy damage. No injuries were reported after the semi and trailer turned over just before 6 p.m. across all lanes of the eastbound 201 freeway. The Sig Alert is scheduled to last until about 8:30 p.m. |
