CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two people are dead after a domestic violence suspect being chased by police crashed into a vehicle Wednesday. The pursuit sped down Garey Avenue near County Road where the collision occurred. The vehicle containing two occupants was ripped to shreds. The occupants died at the scene, but the suspect survived. Officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 400 block of East Tenth Street just after 9:30 p.m. April 1. The suspect drove up to the scene as officers were interviewing the victim, according to the Pomona Police Department. “The suspect returned to the location in a truck, driving recklessly and intentionally struck a parked patrol vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene, initiating a police pursuit,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Pomona man Marshall Judson, 31, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, felony evasion and firearm related charges, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers recovered from Judson’s vehicle a firearm and miscellaneous firearm components. He also did not have a valid driver’s license, according to the Pomona Police Department. Judson is being held in the Pomona jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court Monday, April 6. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Three armed suspects took off with thousands of dollars in merchandise from a T-Mobile March 23. The suspects forced employees of the store, 1480 S. Garey Ave., to the back of the business at gunpoint and proceeded to escape with some iPhones, according to the Pomona Police Department. The California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department assisted in locating the juvenile in Compton. Some of the iPhones were recovered as well. The investigation is ongoing. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Apropos for the Ides of March, a man is accused of using a knife to commit crimes Sunday. Freddie Gomez allegedly attempted a vehicle theft in the 600 block of Muir Avenue. Police were called around 6:30 a.m. Nearby, Gomez was found as he attempted to allegedly carjack a driver, according to the Pomona Police Department. During the initial investigation, police determined Gomez was the suspect in a home invasion that same morning. The home invasion was reported around 4:49 a.m., according to the Pomona Police Department. Gomez was officially charged in Pomona Superior Court March 17 with one count each of attempted carjacking, attempted grand theft of a vehicle, entering a non-commercial dwelling during an incident, petty theft and possession of burglary tools, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 52-year-old man was found deceased in a neighborhood near a public park Valentines Day. The cause of death for Daniel Aguilar has been deferred, pending additional investigation, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. First responders were called to an area just north of 2055 Wildrose Ave. around 12:45 p.m. on a report of a person not breathing, according to Aly Diaz, public information coordinator for the Pomona Police Department. The man was found dead on a small strip of grass, which lies between a residential area and Jaycee Park, 2000 N. CityWatch Editor POMONA - One person is dead after crashing on the eastbound 60 Freeway at Garey Avenue Monday. All lanes except the HOV lane are closed. First responders were sent to the scene just after 8 a.m. January 26. Initially, a vehicle described as a compact car, possibly black Tesla, hit the right shoulder guardrail and overturned. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A convicted DUI driver was sentenced recently to 15 years in prison in the collision that killed a pedestrian nearly three years ago. Meleni Fuentes, 25, pleaded no contest to one count each of second-degree murder, DUI with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent causing bodily injury, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing bodily injury, hit and run causing property damage, possession of an open container while driving, driving in excess of 100 miles per hour, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Fuentes also faced the special allegations of causing brain injury and paralysis, driving with a 0.15 percent blood alcohol content or refusing to take a chemical test, driving over the speed limit during commission of the offense and causing bodily injury or death to more than one victim. In a December 10 plea deal, Fuentes had all charges dropped with the exception of second-degree murder, DUI causing bodily injury and the special allegation of causing brain injury and paralysis. She was credited for 478 days time served, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. A major collision occurred on White Avenue north of Berkeley Avenue August 18, 2023. A woman identified as a Pomona city employee was fatally injured. Her son was also injured, but survived, according to the Pomona Police Department. The woman killed was 56-year-old Belinda Fierro, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Fuentes was identified as the suspect. She was arrested August 20, 2024. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 49-year-old Pomona man was arrested December 12 and a loaded firearm was seized during a search. The arrest and weapon seizure happened at Ganesha Park, 1575 N. White Ave. Major Crimes Task Force personnel questioned two men loitering there. Both men were searched after one of them provided false identification, according to the Pomona Police Department. In addition to the loaded firearm, methamphetamine was also discovered. CityWatch Editor POMONA - While the Drifters may be a great act, one suspect took their advice of escaping “up on the roof” too literally November 23. Anthony Sambrano, 34, was booked on suspicion of grand theft, possession of burglary tools and for an outstanding warrant. He allegedly stole items from Target, 701 Rio Rancho Rd. A suspect search unfolded after officers were called to investigate. A K9 aptly named Stryker found the suspect hiding on a rooftop at a nearby school. The Los Angeles County Fire Department assisted with a ladder and officers safely brought Sambrano down. Sambrano was officially charged in court with one count each of petty theft with a prior conviction, grand theft, second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. He pleaded not guilty, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police announced the arrest of a teen, accused of a November 23 fatal shooting in an apartment unit. Major Crimes detectives investigated the shooting and believe the 13-year-old committed the murder of a 16-year-old boy. She has since been taken to juvenile hall, according to the Pomona Police Department. The teen killed was identified as Angel Sierra. He died from gunshot wounds of the neck and abdomen, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The shooting took place around 5:22 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Pasadena Avenue.
