The checkpoint, to be held at an undisclosed location, is scheduled to last from 9 p.m. Friday, to 3 a.m. Saturday, October 30. The saturation patrols are scheduled to last from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, according to the Pomona Police Department. “DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols are done in locations with a higher frequency of DUI-related collisions and arrests. During the checkpoint, officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Citing data from 2017, police investigated 127 DUI collision in Pomona, resulting in 49 injuries and one death. The costs incurred through a DUI arrest and subsequent court appearances, fines, fees, DUI classes and license suspension can top $13,500, according to the Pomona Police Department. Funding for this DUI campaign is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The owner whom police declined to identify allegedly refused to comply with demands to cease operations. The business at 908 N. Towne Ave. was the subject of numerous calls for service, verbal warnings, administrative citations and criminal filings, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers seized 33 pounds of marijuana product, 22 pounds of marijuana and a non-serialized handgun, according to the Pomona Police Department. The building was also red-tagged by the City of Pomona and entry is not permitted, unless granted by city officials, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department’s case will be sent to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review. The collision occurred in the area of Garey Avenue and Philadelphia Street around 11:07 a.m. Officers arrived and found the rider who appeared gravely injured. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the rider died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators who do not believe driving under the influence was a factor in the crash. The collision occurred around 8:22 p.m. at Mission Boulevard and Dudley Street October 6. The unidentified woman walked out into traffic lanes for unknown reasons and was struck, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Intoxicated driving is not a factor, according to the Pomona Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police are investigating an incident that left a suspect wounded by gunfire after an alleged attempted carjacking Saturday afternoon.
The shooting occurred just after 12:30 p.m. in the 500 block of East Franklin Avenue, October 2. The suspect confronted the alleged victim on foot, revealed a handgun and attempted to rob him. The suspect was shot. He was eventually detained, treated for injuries and later hospitalized in stable condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspect’s handgun was recovered. It is not yet publicly known what type of vehicle the suspect tried to take from the alleged victim, nor is it publicly clear how the alleged victim came to be armed in the first place. Police declined to name the suspect, but he is facing being booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted carjacking, carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm. |
