He was taken to a trauma center and is in critical condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. The motive for the shooting, as well as descriptions of any suspects are not known. Officers responded to a call of gunfire in the 500 block of North Claremont Place around 2:30 a.m. January 20. One man was declared dead at the scene. A second victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. Investigators with the Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Unit are still determining a motive. The shooting was reported at East Kingsley Avenue and North San Antonio Avenue just after 5 p.m. Thursday, October 19. The victim was shot out near the street. He was hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to Sgt. Uribe of the Pomona Police Department. A possible suspect was seen running from the scene. It is unclear if that suspect fled in a vehicle, Uribe told SGV CityWatch. Uribe said he didn’t know if the shooting was gang-related. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man and woman were arrested March 15 after video surveillance helped investigators identify the pair in an attempted murder.
Salome Rodriguez, 44, and Jocelyn Delacruz, 24, were taken into custody near South Hamilton Boulevard and West Eighth Street by the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit which was conducting surveillance on the pair, according to the Pomona Police Department. A victim was wounded by gunfire just before 3 p.m. at a liquor store in the 1100 block of West Mission Boulevard. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit were able to quickly identify Rodriguez and Delacruz as suspects with the help of video surveillance. The pair were found walking near South Hamilton Boulevard and West Eighth Street when undercover officers found them and took them into custody. The victim was treated at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Both suspects, who reside in Pomona, were charged with one count each of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The pair already had a scheduled court appearance March 17 and are scheduled again in court April 27 in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Rodriguez is being held in lieu of more than $3.2 million bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Delacruz is being held without bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Jesus Perez-Paniagua, a 21-year-old Pomona man, was formally charged October 10 with four counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of armed robbery and one count of possession of a dagger, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers were called to the 400 block of East Kingsley Avenue around 1:12 a.m. October 7 and found two victims with multiple stab wounds. The suspect was not found and both victim were treated at a hospital for their wounds, according to the Pomona Police Department. Around 1:30 a.m., officers were told of a stabbing victim that wound up at a hospital. The third stabbing occurred in the 500 block of Vinton Street. Around 6:40 a.m., a fourth stabbing call was made. In the 900 block of North Eleanor Street, officers found a stabbing victim who reported being robbed as well, but the victim was able to provide a suspect description and described the property stolen, according to the Pomona Police Department. Perez was found and detained at Towne Avenue and Kingsley Avenue. Officers reportedly found a bloody knife in his possession and the stolen property. “Perez-Paniagua made statements indicating his involvement in the stabbing on Eleanor St.,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. A warrant search at Perez’s home helped investigators find additional evidence tying to the first two stabbings, according to the Pomona Police Department. All four victims are expected to recover. José Quezada, 32, has been named the suspect in the attempted murder of the security officer. The beating took place September 13 at a Target shopping center, 701 Rio Rancho Rd. “Quezada used a metal object to strike the victim numerous times in the head,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Quezada is a known a transient and frequents the south side of Pomona and the city of Ontario. Police consider him to be armed and dangerous. The man was treated and hospitalized where he was last listed in critical condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers responded to the area of East Third Street and South Locust Avenue around 3:30 a.m. June 19 on a report of two gunshot victims. Los Angeles County Firefighters also responded, treated the wounded men and took them to a hospital. “One victim was admitted in critical condition and the other victim is currently stable,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement Sunday morning. Josue Cervantes, 26, reportedly stole from the 7-Eleven, 1001 E. Grand Ave., previously. The employee recognized Cervantes as he approached around 3:30 a.m. and locked the door to keep him from entering, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was reportedly armed with a rifle and ordered the employee to let him in. Cervantes reportedly opened fire at the employee through the glass. The employee was hit, according to the Pomona Police Department. The employee was hospitalized and is expected to recover. During a follow-up investigation, detectives located a discarded rifle and other belongings nearby. An officer spotted a person who looked like Cervantes. The person was fleeing from the area, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was eventually found hiding in the rear yard of a residence and taken into custody. Cervantes was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of more than $3.1 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court April 22. Treshawn Lovett, 26, the aptly-named Justice Rivers, 22, Jordan Menefee, 20, and the teen were all involved in multiple fights, shootings, a robbery and a police pursuit. One of the shootings unfolded inside a fast food restaurant, which left the establishment damaged by gunfire, according to the Pomona Police Department. Several months of investigation led to the arrest of all four suspects. The adult suspects pleaded guilty March 9, 2021. The four went to 1302 E. Kingsley Dr. on October 27, 2019 and after getting in a fight, Rivers and Menefee unloaded firearms into an occupied apartment. Lovett and the teen were the getaway drivers, Pomona Police said in a written statement. November 14, 2019, Menefee and the teen began arguing with a customer inside Popeye’s Chicken, 1911 Indian Hill Blvd. After the argument, both suspects opened fire at the customer. The restaurant was struck multiple times, the Pomona Police Department said. It was not specifically stated if the customer was injured. November 22, 2019, Rivers, Menefee and the teen escaped police after a brief pursuit. Officers chased the suspects who robbed a Pomona High School student at gunpoint prior to the chase. Police recovered firearms and other evidence inside the abandoned vehicle, connecting the quartet with the previous crimes. Lovett, a Pomona man, pleaded guilty to one count of negligent discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to three years in state prison. Menefee, a Hemet resident, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and armed robbery. He was sentenced to nine years in state prison. Rivers, a Pomona man, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and armed robbery. He was sentenced to nine years in state prison. The teen also pleaded guilty and served one year in jail, Pomona Police said. |
