The robbery took place in the area of Holt Avenue and Clark Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. During the robbery a suspect, identified as Dana Christian Torrez, 37, allegedly opened fire on his victim. The rear window of the victim’s vehicle was shattered, according to the Pomona Police Department. “While conducting a search of the area, officers managed to locate the individual believed to be responsible. However, the individual displayed a lack of cooperation and disregarded the commands given by the officers,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Officers were soon able to take Torrez into custody. Torrez has since been officially charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with shooting at an inhabited vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon with a firearm, robbery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Torrez is being held in lieu of $3 million bail. He is expected to make another appearance in Pomona Superior Court Thursday June 1. Josue Cervantes, 26, reportedly stole from the 7-Eleven, 1001 E. Grand Ave., previously. The employee recognized Cervantes as he approached around 3:30 a.m. and locked the door to keep him from entering, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was reportedly armed with a rifle and ordered the employee to let him in. Cervantes reportedly opened fire at the employee through the glass. The employee was hit, according to the Pomona Police Department. The employee was hospitalized and is expected to recover. During a follow-up investigation, detectives located a discarded rifle and other belongings nearby. An officer spotted a person who looked like Cervantes. The person was fleeing from the area, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was eventually found hiding in the rear yard of a residence and taken into custody. Cervantes was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of more than $3.1 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court April 22. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – Three men and an unnamed teen were all sentenced after pleading guilty to a series of crimes committed over nearly a month’s time in 2019.
Treshawn Lovett, 26, the aptly-named Justice Rivers, 22, Jordan Menefee, 20, and the teen were all involved in multiple fights, shootings, a robbery and a police pursuit. One of the shootings unfolded inside a fast food restaurant, which left the establishment damaged by gunfire, according to the Pomona Police Department. Several months of investigation led to the arrest of all four suspects. The adult suspects pleaded guilty March 9, 2021. The four went to 1302 E. Kingsley Dr. on October 27, 2019 and after getting in a fight, Rivers and Menefee unloaded firearms into an occupied apartment. Lovett and the teen were the getaway drivers, Pomona Police said in a written statement. November 14, 2019, Menefee and the teen began arguing with a customer inside Popeye’s Chicken, 1911 Indian Hill Blvd. After the argument, both suspects opened fire at the customer. The restaurant was struck multiple times, the Pomona Police Department said. It was not specifically stated if the customer was injured. November 22, 2019, Rivers, Menefee and the teen escaped police after a brief pursuit. Officers chased the suspects who robbed a Pomona High School student at gunpoint prior to the chase. Police recovered firearms and other evidence inside the abandoned vehicle, connecting the quartet with the previous crimes. Lovett, a Pomona man, pleaded guilty to one count of negligent discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to three years in state prison. Menefee, a Hemet resident, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and armed robbery. He was sentenced to nine years in state prison. Rivers, a Pomona man, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and armed robbery. He was sentenced to nine years in state prison. The teen also pleaded guilty and served one year in jail, Pomona Police said. Jesus Hernandez of Pomona was identified in 2019 as the suspected murderer of 24-year-old Jorge Garcia, also from Pomona. Hernandez was initially arrested on an unrelated firearm possession violation. As the investigation continued, police obtained more evidence that he was the shooter, Pomona Police said.
Garcia was shot and killed September 24, 2016 in the 2400 block of South Garey Avenue around 12:07 a.m. He was already deceased when officers found him, Pomona Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Hernandez with homicide July 7, in addition to the firearm possession charge. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two men are sought in a failed daytime robbery of a postal carrier May 29. The suspects attempted to rob the carrier at gunpoint in the 600 block of East Jefferson Avenue around 11 a.m. The suspects emerged from an older-model silver Toyota Corolla and attempted to rob the carrier, according to the United States Postal Inspection Service. A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of both suspects. Both suspects are Black men with thin builds. One suspect appears to be 5 feet 7 inches tall, 19-22 years old, wore what appeared to be a long sleeve gray shirt or sweatshirt, dark-colored pants, a light-colored hat and a blue mask. The second suspect appears to be 5 feet 3 inches tall, wore all dark clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt and he wore what appears to be a white mask.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man Pomona detectives accuse of committing armed robbery and attempted murder was caught April 27 after evading them for months. Jordan Malik Menefee, 19, was captured by members of the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit Monday after witnessing him leave an apartment unit in the 4100 block of West Thornton Avenue in Hemet. Menefee is accused of committing two shootings and an armed robbery in October and November of 2019, Pomona Police said. Menefee eluded law enforcement by hopping from acquaintance to acquaintance throughout SoCal until detectives got a break on his whereabouts in April, Pomona Police said.
“A search warrant was served immediately following Menefee’s arrest and a loaded firearm was located within Menefee’s vehicle,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Menefee was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling/occupied vehicle and armed robbery. Menefee is being held in lieu of nearly $7.4 million bail at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Pomona man Quintial Brown, 26, was arrested in the 3100 block of West Temple Avenue. He was booked on suspicion of murder, robbery, criminal threats and witness intimidation. Brown allegedly fought with his victim, 60-year-old Jorge Luis Lopez, December 29, 2019 in the 600 block of East Holt Avenue. Brown was released due to insufficient evidence at the time and potential self defense issues, Pomona Police said.
The victim was hospitalized with severe head trauma and died January 13, Pomona Police said. Investigators discovered new evidence in the circumstances prior to the fight and the case against Brown was resubmitted with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which issued an arrest warrant, Pomona Police said. Six suspects in the January 3 robbery were identified. So far, Larry Barron, 33, and Timothy Wright, 19, were arrested, Pomona Police said. Barron and Wright, both from Rialto, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. A woman and her adult son were approached by a group of males who robbed them at gunpoint. The mother and son were both found wounded by gunfire at 883 Buena Vista St. at 9:50 p.m. As the mother was being robbed, her son intervened and both ended up shot. The mother was last listed in stable condition. The son was listed in critical condition. Both Barron and Wright were booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder. Officers responded to an apartment complex at 833 Buena Vista Ave., January 3 to a shooting victim and found both mother and son injured, according to the Pomona Police Department. “As the female was being robbed by the unknown suspects, the son attempted to intervene. One suspect produced a handgun and shot striking both the mother and son,” Pomona Police said in a written statement.

The teen suspect, unidentified due to his age, reportedly forced his way in to the home in the 900 block of South White Avenue around 9 p.m. October 3. Taken were cash, jewelry, electronics and a family vehicle after demanding the keys, Pomona Police said. Officers located the suspect in the nearby 1300 block of South Park Avenue after tracing a cell phone signal. The suspect was detained at the location and a gun and the stolen property were recovered, Pomona Police said. It was unclear if anyone was injured. |
