Police responded to a medical call at 8 p.m. March 30 in the 1100 block of West Holt Avenue. Police received a 9-1-1 call from a hysterical father reporting his child was choking and not breathing, Pomona Police said. Officer Jeremy Hunt was seconds away from the home. He arrived and found the mother and father holding the choking baby.
“Officer Hunt, observing the mother's emotional state, immediately retrieved the child, turned her on her stomach and administered several back strikes,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “The item was dislodged from the child's throat allowing her to regain her breath.” Los Angeles County fire paramedics responded to transport the baby. The victim, identified as Barbara Fahnestock of Pomona, was struck and killed at Holt Avenue and Caswell Street just after 8:33 p.m. March 29. Arriving officers located Fahnestock injured on the roadway. Firefighters declared her dead at the scene, Pomona Police said. The Dodge Charger fled south on Palm Street after striking Fahnestock as she crossed the road.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 50-year-old Inglewood man was arrested outside his home March 27, accused of killing his 58-year-old girlfriend and her dog. Chaumon Tyner was booked on suspicion of murder Wednesday after witness statements and physical evidence collected at the murder scene pegged Tyner as a suspect, Pomona Police said. Ronny Wall was found dead, along with her dog, inside her apartment at Serenity Villas Apartments, 150 E. Bonita Ave., March 18. Firefighters discovered the scene after being called to the location at 6:50 a.m.
Pomona homicide investigators found signs of a struggle. An arson fire was also started at the scene, Pomona Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count each of murder, arson of an inhabited dwelling and cruelty to an animal March 29. Tyner was also scheduled to appear in court the same day. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two 20-year-old men accused of murdering a Sylmar teen and dumping her body in the Azusa canyons are scheduled to be arraigned Friday. Frediz Lopez and Christian Granados, both from Los Angeles, were arrested early in December 2018 and booked on suspicion of murdering Johanna Lissette Mejia Gayton, 17. Her bloody body was found in the San Gabriel Mountains, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Both men are facing arraignment in Pomona Superior Court. A 16-year-old girl from Compton was additionally charged with murder. A resident called 9-1-1 around 12:15 p.m. Saturday November 24, 2018 after discovering Gayton’s body. Deputies from the San Dimas Station arrived to East Fork Road at mile marker 1.25 and declared Gayton dead at the scene, according to Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Los Angeles a County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Gayton’s body was in a culvert adjacent to a turnout and apparently suffered blunt force trauma, Viera said. Mission Blvd. around 6:08 a.m. March 28. It was not explained if the pedestrian, described as a Black man in his 20s or 30s, died at the scene or at a hospital. The driver remained at the scene, Pomona Police said.
Police will have east and west Mission Boulevard closed from the 1000 block to 1200 block closed for at least four hours for a investigation, Pomona Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A suspect was arrested near the crime scene of a commercial burglary after she allegedly used her SUV to destroy a security gate just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, police said. 22-year-old Chino woman Marie Zena Padilla and a still-outstanding suspect are accused of using two vehicles to ram the security gate to Bargel International, 3383 Pomona Blvd. March 26, Pomona Police said. Property was stolen from the business' warehouse. Padilla and the unidentified suspect fled with a security guard following them.
Pomona Police arrived and arrested Padilla nearby in a blue 1998 Ford Expedition. The second suspect, driving a white Toyota Rav4, was not found. The stolen property was recovered. Padilla was booked on suspicion of Burglary. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A hit-and-run driver is being sought Sunday after fleeing the scene of a crash. The pedestrian was hit in the 900 block of East Holt Avenue just before 10 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The pedestrian, only described as a male adult, is hospitalized in critical condition, Pomona Police said.
Holt Avenue between South East End Avenue and North Reservoir Street will be closed down for the next two to three hours for a collision investigation, Pomona Police said. There is no description of the suspect vehicle. Any witnesses to the crash are urged to call Pomona Police at 909-622-1241. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A worker’s hand was trapped inside an onion dicing machine at a Pomona business. The person was trapped in the 2700 block of Towne Avenue. Firefighters freed the worker’s hand just before a medic team was to be flown in, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The incident was reported at 11:34 a.m. The exact degree of injury is not publicly known. Firefighters summoned a HERT team, which is comprised of a team of trauma surgeons flown in to scenes involving major injuries which require specific care.
The worker is being taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for further treatment. The man was found shot to death in the 900 block of East Fourth Street after officers responded to a gunfire call at 12:49 a.m., according to the Pomona Police Department. An unknown number of suspects were inside a blue sedan when the shooting occurred.

Coroner investigators determined the dead woman suffered injuries consistent with being physically assaulted and stabbed, Pomona Police said. Investigators identified the victim was identified as 58-year-old Pomona resident Ronny Wall.
Los Angeles County firefighters found the woman and her dog dead inside the unit at Serenity Villas, 158 E. Bonita Ave., just before 6 a.m. March 18. Firefighters received call of a fire sprinkler activation. A fire had been set inside the apartment, Pomona Police said. |
