The dispensaries were reportedly given ample warning to comply with city ordinances banning the sale of marijuana within Pomona city limits and the owners of these businesses refused to comply with demands to cease operations, according to the Pomona Police Department. Members of the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit, Investigative Services Division, Major Crimes Task Force and Detective Bureau issued the search warrants at: 1017 W. Mission Blvd. 1049 W. Mission Blvd. 1305 W. Holt Ave., #103 985 W. Holt Ave. More than 138 pounds of marijuana was seized, along with more than 6,600 marijuana products and $10,800 in U.S. currency, Pomona Police said. Also arrested was Manjot Hernandez, a 27-year-old Anaheim resident. Aiding the investigation was the California Department of Tax Fee Administration. “These Dispensaries have been operating illegally and have been contacted numerous times by Pomona Code Compliance Inspectors,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “The Inspectors have attempted to educate the owners about the violations of operating illegally. These locations have continually refused to comply with the City’s request to cease the illegal activities.” The sale of marijuana is prohibited in Pomona. The checkpoint is slated to begin at 9 p.m. Friday and conclude the following morning at 3 a.m. The saturation patrols will begin Friday at 7 p.m. and conclude the following morning at 3 a.m., Pomona Police said. Authorities continue to see an upward trend in drugged driving, with 14 percent of active drivers testing positive for drugs that may impair driving, compared to 7.3 percent of drivers testing for alcohol, Pomona Police said. Marijuana was the leading drug amongst drugged drivers. “Everyone should be mindful that if you’re taking medication – whether prescription or over-the-counter – drinking even small amounts of alcohol can greatly intensify the impairment affects,” Pomona Police said. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Pomona Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man found guilty of raping three homeless women in Pomona will see the inside of a prison cell after being sentenced Wednesday.
Charlie Nathan Paxton, 25, was sentence to 35 years to life in state prison for two counts of forcible rape and one count each of assault with intent to commit rape, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, second-degree robbery and kidnapping to commit rape with allegations of kidnapping and aggravated kidnapping during a sexual assault. Paxton was found guilty September 12, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Paxton must also submit to lifetime registration as a sex offender. The first reported assault occurred in August of 2017 and in the months that followed, four other women came forward with assault claims, the Pomona Police said. All the victims claimed to have visited the Pomona Armory, Pomona Police said. A crime analyst noticed a similar suspect description in all five assaults, allowing officers to locate and arrest Paxton. Gustavo Maldonado, 30, was taken into custody Nov. 24 after a brief foot pursuit during a traffic stop at Garvey Avenue and Center Street around 10 p.m. Maldonado was taken into custody without further incident. In addition to the shotgun, police found narcotics, Pomona Police said. Pomona Police and the California Highway Patrol we’re working a joint gang suppression detail when Police stopped the driver for vehicle code violations, Pomona Police said. Additional occupants in the suspect vehicle were detained, interviewed at the scene and released. Maldonado was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a gang member in possession of a loaded firearm, promoting gang activity, possessing a controlled substance and resisting an officer. Maldonado is being held without bail and is awaiting an appearance in Pomona Municipal Court November 27. The suspects fled after officers attempted a traffic stop just before 11 p.m. in the 2200 block of Logan Street. The suspects’ car came to an abrupt stop and all three suspects ran, according to the Pomona Police Department. Two suspects, 18-year-old Marcello Hernandez and 23-year-old Renall Sanford, were captured quickly by officers with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force. Dilbert O’Brien, 19, was caught a short distance later. He reportedly attempted to discard a small bag containing four loaded handguns, Pomona Police said. All three men were booked on suspicion of being a gang member in possession of a loaded firearm, promoting gang activity, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a high-capacity magazine and carrying a concealed stolen firearm, Pomona Police said. The unidentified victim exited his Toyota Corolla when it became disabled after hitting a UPS big rig in the eastbound HOV lane around 4:22 a.m. The Prius, driven by a Baldwin Park man, rear-ended the Corolla, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Corolla then struck its driver, who was standing in traffic lanes. The force of the crash sent the man flying over the center divider and into westbound lanes, the CHP said. The Corolla driver died at the scene. The Prius’ driver complained of pain. His passenger suffered multiple internal injuries. Both were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medica Center. A man, reportedly intoxicated, was crossing Mission Boulevard at Curran Place around 8:45 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver and her husband remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators. The fire was reported in the 30 block of Country Wood Drive at 9:51 a.m. inside the attached garage of the single-family home, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Two vehicles were reported well-involved with fire spreading to the garage itself. The flames were knocked down around 10 a.m. No injuries were reported. The fire is burning in the area of West Phillips Drive and South Westmont Avenue. Firefighters, dispatched at 8:35 p.m., report no structures are threatened, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Forward progress of the flames has been stopped.
