Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 71-year-old bicyclist was struck by a driver and left for dead on a Pomona Street Wednesday morning.
First responders were sent to Mission Boulevard and East End Avenue March 22, around 5:37 a.m. and found the bicyclist severely wounded. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics treated the man who later died at the scene. It is believed the bicycle list was attempting to cross East End Avenue when he was hit, according to the Pomona Police Department. The bicyclist was J. Guadalupe Perez-Nunez, 71. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man and woman were arrested March 15 after video surveillance helped investigators identify the pair in an attempted murder.
Salome Rodriguez, 44, and Jocelyn Delacruz, 24, were taken into custody near South Hamilton Boulevard and West Eighth Street by the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit which was conducting surveillance on the pair, according to the Pomona Police Department. A victim was wounded by gunfire just before 3 p.m. at a liquor store in the 1100 block of West Mission Boulevard. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit were able to quickly identify Rodriguez and Delacruz as suspects with the help of video surveillance. The pair were found walking near South Hamilton Boulevard and West Eighth Street when undercover officers found them and took them into custody. The victim was treated at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Both suspects, who reside in Pomona, were charged with one count each of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The pair already had a scheduled court appearance March 17 and are scheduled again in court April 27 in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Rodriguez is being held in lieu of more than $3.2 million bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Delacruz is being held without bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Crisis negotiators and family convinced a reportedly armed man to surrender after refusing to emerge from a residence Monday where two women were held against their will, police said.
Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of North Reservoir Street around 4:15 a.m. March 20 by a woman who concerned for a friend’s wellbeing. One woman was able to escape through a window from the home and told police of her ordeal and that another woman had yet to be freed, according to the Pomona Police Department. Authorities setup a perimeter and evacuated nearby residents. It took four hours of talks with crisis negotiators, with family of the suspect assisting, until 29-year-old Ricardo Alvarado surrendered, according to the Pomona Police Department. No one was injured. Firearms were seized from the residence. Alvarado, a Pomona man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment with violence, kidnapping and removing, damaging or destroying a wireless communication device to prevent someone from using it to seek help. POMONA - Possibly as many as 30 to 50 vehicles were disabled after a large pothole developed on the northbound 71 freeway near Holt Avenue Tuesday. A full freeway closure of the 71 at Holt Avenue is in place for an unknown duration. The California Highway Patrol is attempting to get an updated status from Caltrans who has been requested for emergency repair work, but materials needed for the emergency repair work are apparently not available until the day shift crew arrives, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP first received calls from drivers around 4:11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15. |
