This is the second fatal shooting in as many days. Officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 100 block of East Holt Avenue, February 18 around 6 p.m. First responders located the victim who was taken to a nearby hospital where he eventually died. A double shooting February 16 left a man dead at the scene and sent one man to a hospital where he was last listed in stable condition. Police are investigating the death of the child, who remains publicly unnamed, after being called to the apartment complex in the 1800 block of Cordova Street around 5:30 a.m. Monday. Neighbors apparently arrived and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived. The boy was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital medical center, where he was pronounced, dead, according to the Pomona Police Department. Police have yet to reveal why the death appears to be suspicious. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating and has interviewed witnesses and family members. The investigation is ongoing in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Equipment violations led officers to discover a loaded unregistered firearm tucked under the driver seat of a vehicle driven by a known gang member Saturday, the Pomona Police Department said.
Johnny Richardson, a 19-year-old Pomona resident, was arrested after officers discovered the weapon and learned of his identity. Richardson was stopped around 6:18 p.m. in the area of Holt Avenue and Clark Avenue February 11. Richardson was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being in possession of an unregistered firearm and being a criminal street gang member carrying a loaded firearm. Richardson posted $35,000 bond and was released Monday, February 13 at 7:22 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. The man was found by officers who were called to the 300 block of North Mountain View Avenue. Officers were called to the location around 2 a.m., according to the Pomona Police Department. It is unclear if Homicide detectives with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit have developed suspect information or a motive.
