Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested August 3, accused of dumping a substantial amount of crack cocaine out of the vehicle he drove after a fender bender, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Oscar Dimas, 26, was involved in a traffic collision at South Garey Avenue and Market Place. Officers were called to the scene at 10:18 p.m. Dimas was seen dumping items on the side of the road. Officers discovered 22 kilograms of cocaine were dumped, according to the Pomona Police Department. Dimas was charged with one count of transportation of a controlled substance. Dimas is being held without bail. He was also wanted out of San Bernardino County for possession of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance for sale, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records. Dimas made scheduled appearances in the Pomona courthouse August 5 and August 8. He is next scheduled to appear September 6, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Dimas is being held in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. The illicit goods were discovered with the help of a search warrant. The suspect, Ivan Orozco, fled from officers after they saw him holding an open container of booze in the 300 block of Orchid Lane, according to the Pomona Police Department. “When Officers attempted to contact him he ran towards an open garage. Officers contacted Ivan Cortez Orozco and located a loaded firearm on his person,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Inside the home, officers discovered what they described as a substantial amount of methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials and an undisclosed amount of U.S. money. The loaded firearm was later determined to be stolen, according to the Pomona Police Department. Orozco was booked on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a loaded unregistered firearm and possession of a stolen firearm. A patrol officer, along with his trainee, made the traffic stop March 16 in the area of Seventh Street and White Avenue around 1:26 a.m. The driver was also found to be driving with a suspended license, according to the Pomona Police Department. A backup officer arrived and recognized the driver, Rudy Woo, as an active gang member. “The Officer knew Woo to be an active gang member, convicted felon, on probation, and out on bail from two previous arrests. Based on Woo’s probationary status, Officers explained to him that his car was subject to search, at which point, Woo admitted to possessing a loaded firearm in the car,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Officers also found multiple handgun magazines, ammunition suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, according to the Pomona Police Department. Woo, 43, was booked on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a loaded & unregistered firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. The owner whom police declined to identify allegedly refused to comply with demands to cease operations. The business at 908 N. Towne Ave. was the subject of numerous calls for service, verbal warnings, administrative citations and criminal filings, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers seized 33 pounds of marijuana product, 22 pounds of marijuana and a non-serialized handgun, according to the Pomona Police Department. The building was also red-tagged by the City of Pomona and entry is not permitted, unless granted by city officials, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department’s case will be sent to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review. Pomona man Pete Garcia, 45, was booked on suspicion of possessing a firearm and narcotics, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition, the Pomona Police Department said. Police attempted a traffic stop around 8:40 p.m. at Reservoir Street and Philadelphia Street. Garcia stopped in the drive thru of Angelo’s Burgers, 902 W. Mission Blvd., and consented to a vehicle search, the Pomona Police Department said. “Garcia consented to a search of the vehicle and a loaded firearm was recovered. Garcia was also in possession of narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia. He was arrested without incident and booked at the Pomona city jail,” according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers patrolling Third Street and Huntington Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. saw Abraham Chavez and other occupants of a parked vehicle smoking drugs March 18. Chavez was found concealing the loaded handgun, Pomona Police said. Chavez, 18, is on felony probation for a previous robbery arrest. He was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Officers took down an illegal marijuana dispensary November 30 and recovered 18 pounds of marijuana, 19 pounds of marijuana product and an unregistered firearm, police said. The dispensary, 1425 E. Mission Blvd., was the target of numerous “administrative citations” by the city for building code violations and the owner was cited for having a marijuana dispensary operate on the property. The owner allegedly refused to comply with city requests to cease operation, according to the Pomona Police Department. The building was red-tagged numerous times. “The operators of these locations refuse to follow local and state laws. They sell unregulated product which is dangerous to the user,” according to the Pomona Police Department. “The products are purchased from the black-market and sold over the counter without a permit to anyone off the street. These products are laced with chemicals and have unregulated THC levels.”
One of the two weapons seized during the raid is an unregistered firearm, Pomona Police said. “The weapon was hidden, but was found and will be tested for DNA to trace it back to the owner,” Pomona Police said. The building is still red-tagged and cannot be occupied until the business is closed and the building deemed safe, Pomona Police said. Code enforcement officials will continue with administrative action against the owner and operators. The suspect was stopped just before 12:30 a.m. Friday at Hamilton Boulevard and Muir Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle reportedly had no license plates. The officer searched the suspect vehicle after the officer saw the paraphernalia within, according to the Pomona Police Department. “Officers searched the rest of the car and found suspected methamphetamine and a loaded firearm,” the Pomona Police Department said in a written statement.
Joseph Armienta, A 40-year-old Pomona man, was arrested and booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, Being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm. Officers with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force searched the home of David “Vago” Valles in the 300 block of Otis Court after contacting him while on patrol. Knowing Valles is a probationer, in addition to being a gang member previously arrested for gun possession, officers conducted a compliance check, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Valles was cooperative during the search. Valles, 41, was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A convicted felon was jailed Saturday after a traffic investigation led to the discovery of weed and weapons April 18. 38-year-old Mario Galvez, was stopped after officers witnessed him driving in opposing lanes in the 1100 block of West Second Street just after 7 p.m. After discovering Galvez has a suspended driver license, police searched his vehicle. “Officers found marijuana that was packaged for drug sales and a pair of brass knuckles that were concealed in the center console of Suspect Galvez’ car,” Pomona Police said in a written statement.
Officers searched Galvez’s home after obtaining a search warrant and located a rifle, handgun, large amounts of ammunition and more marijuana in amounts consistent with drug sales, Pomona Police said. Galvez was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of marijuana for sales and possession of brass knuckles. |
