Six suspects in the January 3 robbery were identified. So far, Larry Barron, 33, and Timothy Wright, 19, were arrested, Pomona Police said. Barron and Wright, both from Rialto, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. A woman and her adult son were approached by a group of males who robbed them at gunpoint. The mother and son were both found wounded by gunfire at 883 Buena Vista St. at 9:50 p.m. As the mother was being robbed, her son intervened and both ended up shot. The mother was last listed in stable condition. The son was listed in critical condition. Both Barron and Wright were booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder. Arthur Mendez, a 45-year-old Pomona man, was convicted on 24 counts in November 2019 related to the assaults, according to the Pomona Police Department. Charges included: -One count of forcible penetration with a foreign object -Five counts of rape by force or fear -One count of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor age 14 or 15 -Nine counts of willful child endangerment -One count of sodomy by force or fear -One count of forcible penetration with a victim under age 14 -One charge of oral copulation with a child younger than 14 -One count of sodomy by force on a child under 14 -Four counts of lewd acts on a child by force At sentencing, Mendez had counts 12 and 13 of willful child endangerment because they are outside the statute of limitations, according to Shaira Davila-Morales, chief of media relations for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Officers became aware of the assaults in 2018 when they responded to a 14-year-old runaway. The girl, one of Mendez’s daughters, told officers of what transpired. “The 14-year-old disclosed that her biological father had been sexually abusing her for approximately 2 months and her twin sister for approximately 1 year,” the Pomona Police Department said in a written statement. “The victim also stated her 10 and 12-year-old sisters had witnessed the sexual abuse.” During a 2019 preliminary hearing where Mendez’s daughters appeared, two additional victims came forward, Pomona Police said. Both additional victims are now 26 years old. One victim was raped between the ages of 9 and 12 years old. The other was raped at 16. Mendez was found guilty after a four-day trial. Mendez must also register for life as a sex offender, Davila-Morales said. Officers discovered 125 grams of heroin, 125 fentanyl pills and $1,200 in the vehicle driven by Pomona man Miguel Pillado Ruiz, 22. He was initially stopped for a vehicle code violation, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers with the department’s Special Investigations Unit searched the car after discovering Ruiz was unlicensed, Pomona Police said.
“The estimated street value for the seized narcotics is more than $15,000,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Ruiz was booked on suspicion of being an unlicensed driver, driving with expired registration, possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance for sale, Pomona Police said. The suspects, 19-year-old Kyonne Garner, 21-year-old Jaquan Shaw and 21-year-old Tyshawn Murphy, carried a number of power tools to the roof, likely in an effort to break their way in, according to the Pomona Police Department. The alarm was triggered at 9:45 p.m. A helicopter arrived along with police to the 1600 block of East Holt Avenue and spotted the three suspects on the roof as they attempted to flee, but they were arrested once they climbed down, Pomona Police said.
All three suspects, listed as Los Angeles residents, were booked on suspicion of attempted commercial burglary. The driver was westbound on Pomona Boulevard at Pacific Street around 10:25 a.m. when the driver drifted into the eastbound lane and crashed, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was found in grave condition by firefighters who transported him to a trauma center where he was eventually pronounced dead. At the time, investigators could not find witnesses to the crash.

Officers responded to an apartment complex at 833 Buena Vista Ave., January 3 to a shooting victim and found both mother and son injured, according to the Pomona Police Department. “As the female was being robbed by the unknown suspects, the son attempted to intervene. One suspect produced a handgun and shot striking both the mother and son,” Pomona Police said in a written statement.

The robbery was reported at the restaurant, 2775 S. Reservoir St. around 8:39 p.m. The suspect was given an unknown amount of money after he pointed the gun at the employee, Pomona Police said. They were reportedly were customers inside Jack in the box when the robbery occurred. Police said no customers or employees were injured during the crime.
