CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man allegedly under the influence reportedly had to be subdued with a stun gun when he allegedly tried to assault officers with a tree branch after climbing to the roof of a 7-Eleven, September 12. The incident unfolded at the 7-Eleven, 1546 W. Mission Blvd. The man was reportedly seen walking on the roof of the convenience store. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation for three hours, according to the Pomona Police Department. At one point, the man jumped from the roof of the 7-Eleven and grabbed a large tree branch. Eventually, the man came down, but was allegedly combative with officers and tried to beat them with a tree branch, according to the Pomona Police Department. The man, Arturo Torres, a 53-year-old San Gabriel resident, was eventually subdued with a stun gun and taken into custody. He was booked on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury on a peace officer, and disturbing the peace. Torres is being held in lieu of $65,000 bail at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man accused of firing off a handgun at a mobile home park Wednesday night was shot and wounded by Pomona officers after allegedly firing at them. Officers responded to a report of a man firing a weapon at the Westland Estates Mobile Home Park, 1401 W. Ninth St., around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. Officers encountered an armed suspect on the street and reportedly made multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. He allegedly did not comply. The suspect reportedly fired at officers who then shot and wounded him. He was transported to a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A weapon was reportedly recovered at the scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting. The stabbing occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Mission Boulevard. Investigators have yet to reveal the circumstances behind the stabbing, but the suspect was caught on security camera inside of a local liquor store prior to the stabbing. The officer was wounded in the area of Angela Street and Chanselor Street. Officers responding to a gunfire call in the 2000 block of South San Antonio Avenue February 3 found the wounded man. Police and firefighters attempted to save the man, but he died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The incident occurred around 8:31 a.m. The victim was only described as a 45-year-old Pomona resident. Police did not reveal if a suspect description exists. A motive is not yet known. Six suspects in the January 3 robbery were identified. So far, Larry Barron, 33, and Timothy Wright, 19, were arrested, Pomona Police said. Barron and Wright, both from Rialto, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. A woman and her adult son were approached by a group of males who robbed them at gunpoint. The mother and son were both found wounded by gunfire at 883 Buena Vista St. at 9:50 p.m. As the mother was being robbed, her son intervened and both ended up shot. The mother was last listed in stable condition. The son was listed in critical condition. Both Barron and Wright were booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder. 26-year-old Jacob Makwana was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, throwing an object at moving vehicle with intent to cause great bodily injury felony vandalism, according to the Pomona Police Department. A concerned resident witnessed Makwana and others possibly involved in illegal dumping around 10:30 a.m. August 9 near Towne Avenue and the 60 freeway. The resident told the group to stop and called police. Makwana became irate at the resident who began recording him. He began hitting the resident’s vehicle. Makwana rushed back to the SUV, grabbed and large cement boulder and struck the resident’s windshield, causing heavy damage. Makwana fled in the SUV. Police identified Makwana from the video and sought public assistance in apprehending him. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man was arrested Wednesday after he rammed a Pomona Police officer’s patrol vehicle multiple times, rammed parked vehicles and slammed through a wall before fleeing on foot. The unidentified suspect was spotted near Mission Boulevard and Elm Street February 6. After finding the suspect parking the stolen Audi A3 in the stall of an automotive business in the 1500 block of East Mission, officers attempted a traffic stop.
The suspect was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on an officer, vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.
