CityWatch Editor POMONA - A domestic disturbance suspect is recovering after being shot by Pomona police at the end of a barricade at a collision scene Sunday night. The suspect allegedly fired off a handgun during the domestic disturbance in the 200 block of Las Brisas Circle, June 9. He fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed and crashed in the intersection of Holt Avenue and White Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect allegedly refused to exit his vehicle and barricaded himself. During this time, police shot the suspect. The suspect is currently recovering from his wounds at a hospital and is listed in stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man accused of firing off a handgun at a mobile home park Wednesday night was shot and wounded by Pomona officers after allegedly firing at them. Officers responded to a report of a man firing a weapon at the Westland Estates Mobile Home Park, 1401 W. Ninth St., around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. Officers encountered an armed suspect on the street and reportedly made multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. He allegedly did not comply. The suspect reportedly fired at officers who then shot and wounded him. He was transported to a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A weapon was reportedly recovered at the scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting. First responders were sent to the 800 block of North Currier Street around 12:15 a.m. May 12 and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a trauma center and is in critical condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. The motive for the shooting, as well as descriptions of any suspects are not known. Oscar Cruz was identified by detectives in the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit who were investigating the murder of 43-year-old Alex Adorno of Pomona. Adorno was found suffering gunshot wounds in an alleyway June 4, 2023. Despite life-saving efforts, Adorno died at the scene. Cruz was located and arrested April 16. Cruz is being held in lieu of more than $2 million bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles and was scheduled for a court appearance in Pomona Superior Court Thursday, April 18. An investigation by the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit led to the arrest of 29-year-old Armando Wardle and 28-year-old Mayan Ayala in connection to the murder of 35-year-old James Avila. Both men were arrested February 9. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office formally filed charges against both suspects with one count each of murder. Wardle was additionally charged with two counts of a prior felony conviction enhancement, being felon in possession of a firearm and using a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. The Shooting Took place Monday, January 29 just before Midnight the 900 block of West Holt Avenue. Officers responding to a shots fired call arrived and found Avila suffering from a gunshot wound. Avila was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital where he died later. Wardle is being held without bail. Ayala is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. Both suspects have already made a court appearance and are scheduled again in Pomona Superior Court March 19. Officers were sent to the 900 block of West Holt Avenue just before midnight January 29 to a report of gunfire. Officers found the victim, only described as a male adult. He was treated at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to the Pomona Police Department. Investigators from the Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Unit are trying to establish a motive. City officials are offering the $10,000 reward to find the killer of 19-year-old Christian Ramirez who was shot along with five others at a warehouse party in the 1500 block of E. First Street September 22. The large party was attended by high schoolers, and students from both Cal Poly Pomona, and other local universities. Several students were injured, according to a previous statement, issued by Cal Poly Pomona officials. First responders arrived to the 1300 block of West Mission Boulevard around 9:22 p.m. and found the juvenile gunshot victim December 26. The juvenile was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, according to the Pomona Police Department. Police did find evidence that a shooting took place inside a residence in the 800 block of East Columbia Street. Officers were sent to the location around 8:07 a.m. No shooting victims were located. “Officers arrived and successfully evacuated twenty individuals from the premises. During the investigation, it was learned that a shooting did occur and at this time, there have been no reported injuries. At the location, five individuals were found to have outstanding warrants and were arrested and booked at the Pomona City Jail,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Assisting Pomona were police departments from Chino, Claremont, La Verne and Ontario. |
