More than 1,100 pounds of marijuana was confiscated from the building At 960 E. First St. The marijuana operation was discovered just after 4 a.m. April 2. While investigating damage to the commercial building’s door, an officer found the building’s owner standing to the front of the location, Pomona police said. The Pomona police special investigations unit arrived on scene, authored a search warrant, and later confiscated the marijuana. “Although the use of marijuana is legal in the State of California, the cultivation and sales of Marijuana are illegal within city limits,” Pomona police said in a written statement. Police arrested 42-year-old Claremont resident Matthew Alan. He was booked on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, Pomona police said. City of Pomona code enforcement “red-tagged” the building to rent rent unsafe and uninhabitable, Pomona police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two Pomona men were arrested Friday night after initially refusing to exit their apartment unit during the execution of a search warrant, Pomona police said. The search warrant was executed at a complex at 586 E. Phillips Blvd., March 27 at 9:30 p.m. Three occupants in the unit complied with officers and exited, but two men, identified as Christopher Perez and Saul Rojas, refused to comply, according to the Pomona Police Department. Perez and Rojas ended the standoff and were taken into custody. Officers entered the unit and discovered two assault rifles, two handguns, armor piercing bullets, high-capacity magazines, narcotics and money. “All of the evidence collected suggested a drug sales operation and one of the assault rifles was found to be reported stolen,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Perez is a convicted felon and officers accuse him of harboring the items found inside the apartment, Pomona police said.
Perez and Rojas, the ladder in violation of his probation, were arrested. Perez was booked on suspicion of narcotics sales with possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sales, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possessing a high-capacity magazine and possession of a stolen firearm. Perez was booked on suspicion of the parole violation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Officers working a gang operation arrested a man found with drugs, a weapon and open alcohol containers in his vehicle, police said. West Covina man Derrick Miller, 34, was approached by officers at Loranne Avenue and Monterey Avenue around 10:18 p.m. Officers believed Miller’s presence suspicious, Pomona Police said. “Miller was in possession of multiple open containers of alcohol. A search of his car revealed a loaded .380 handgun. Also in the car were thirteen ecstasy pills,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “Miller admitted to ownership of the handgun and the street drugs. Miller was found to be a convicted felon as well.”
Miller was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police arrested a man Thursday morning after he led them on a pursuit, during which he allegedly tried to dump methamphetamine out his vehicle. Police arrested Jose Luis Cabrera, a 28-year-old known gang member, in the driveway of his home after he fled from officers. Police witnessed Cabrera driving at high speed at White Avenue and Monterey Avenue around 12:17 a.m. March 19, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cabrera refused to stop when officers tried to pull him over and he drove recklessly around the city. Once Cabrera stopped, he struggled with officers who detained him, Pomona Police said.
“It was learned that during the pursuit, Suspect Cabrera made desperate attempts to discard a large quantity of methamphetamine,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “Traces of the drug residue was found spread about the inside of his car. Despite his actions, several grams of methamphetamine were recovered.” A search warrant was served at Cabrera’s home where three firearms, several rounds of ammunition, body armor and a high capacity gun magazine, methamphetamine, marijuana, packaging material and nearly $3,300, Pomona Police said. Cabrera was booked on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a controlled substance for sales and for violating his probation. Additional charges will be filed against the suspect or suspects responsible for the items found during the search, Pomona Police said. The owners of the dispensary reportedly operated without a permit and refused to comply with orders to stop, according to the Pomona Police Department. The dispensary was located at 1694 E. Ninth St. Officers with the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit shut the business down.
“Although the use of marijuana is legal in the State of California, the sales of Marijuana are illegal within city limits,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. Police did not state if arrests were made. The bust was made just before 11:30 a.m. March 11 at 985 W. Second St. A search warrant was served and officers found more than 11 pounds of marijuana, more than 76 pounds of marijuana product and a handgun was also seized, Pomona Police said. The dispensary’s operators were doing business without a permit and refused to comply with the city’s orders to cease doing business, Pomona Police said.
“Although the use of marijuana is legal in the State of California, the sales of Marijuana are illegal within city limits,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “These investigations are sensitive and all efforts to stop the activities are exhausted before Police action is taken.” Officers did not specify if arrests were made. Efrain Huerta, 28, was taken into custody March 6 During a traffic stop in the area of Kingsley Avenue and Indian Hill Boulevard. Officers initially stopped the vehicle, of which Huerta was a passenger, for not having a front license plate and for failing to make a complete stop at an intersection, according to the Pomona police department. “Huerta was noticeably nervous and without provocation admitted to Officers he was in possession of drugs and paraphernalia,” Pomona police said in a written statement. “Huerta showed the Officers what he admitted to and was removed from the car.” Officers then located a loaded firearm resting near where Huerta was seated. A second hand gun was found holstered on Huerta’s person, Pomona police said.
Huerta was booked on suspicion of possessing a firearm with a controlled substance, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. The driver and a second passenger were identified and released. Pomona police, with the assistance of Azusa, Elmonte, and upland police officers, Arrested one parolee at large, made 19 misdemeanor arrests, 13 felony arrests and performed six probation compliance checks, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers also confiscated 62 grams of methamphetamine, 46 grams of heroin, two MDMA pills, issued 18 citations and served three search warrants. 10 firearms were seized along with nearly $3,700, Pomona police said.
“The special detail was conducted as part of the department’s continuing efforts to suppress violent crime in the City,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. ”The public’s safety is our top priority and we will continue to utilize all available resources to accomplish this goal.” Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Pomona and California Highway Patrol officers working an undercover gang operation nabbed a gang banger on a bicycle and discovered he was carrying a gun, ammunition and drugs. Fernando Padron, a 23-year-old Pomona man, was caught after the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force attempted to stop the fleeing suspect in the 800 block of West Holt Avenue, Pomona Police said. Officers recognized Padron who has numerous run-ins with Pomona Police. He is also on active probation. After being detained while briefly evading officers on his bicycle, Padron told them he was armed with a loaded handgun.
Padron was arrested a few weeks ago for possession of a loaded firearm. He bailed out and is awaiting his trial. Last week, he was arrested again by the Major Crimes Task Force during the execution of a search warrant. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sales. He also bailed out on this open charge pending his trail, Pomona Police said. Padron was booked on suspicion of being a gang member in possession of a loaded firearm, carrying an unregistered firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A dispensary that was a frequent problem was shut down Monday morning, Pomona Police said. The dispensary at 1635 N. Garvey Ave., was shut down by the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit with the assistance of the Department of Consumer Affairs - Cannabis Enforcement Unit. The dispensary was operating without a permit and was the focus of numerous complaints, Pomona Police said. “This location refused to comply with the city’s request to cease the illegal activity,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. More than 22 pounds of marijuana and more than 235 pounds of marijuana product were seized, along with heroin and cocaine, Pomona Police said.
“Although the use of marijuana is legal in the State of California, the sales of Marijuana are illegal within city limits,” Pomona Police said. “These investigations are sensitive and all efforts to stop the activities are exhausted before Police action is taken.” The location was deemed uninhabitable and was "red tagged." Police have not identified any suspects and it is unclear if suspects have been arrested. |
