The victim, a Pomona man, agreed to meet with suspect Alaiza Gamez, an 18-year-old Whittier woman, after speaking through a dating app. The two met at Washington Park just before 1:30 a.m. March 3. Gamez’s boyfriend and the boyfriend’s brother showed up, Pomona Police said. 19-year-old Javier Soto, Gamez’s boyfriend, and Javier’s brother Anthony Soto, 38, pulled the victim from his 2012 tan Chevy Cruze and demanded he empty his pockets. One of the suspects pointed a stun gun at the victim, Pomona Police said.
All three suspects took off with the victim’s cell phone and Chevy Cruze. Officers were called by the victim at 9:40 p.m. that night after he found his subwoofer, stored in the stolen Cruze, posted for sale on the popular app OfferUp. “Officers setup a meeting in the parking lot of the 400 block of South Garey Avenue with the subjects who had listed the item on OfferUp,” Pomona Police said. All three suspects showed up at the meeting location in a black Honda Civic, were detained by officers and positively identified, Pomona Police said. All other property lost in the carjacking was returned but the Chevy Cruze is still missing. Alfonso Antonio Lopez, 32, was taken into custody March 2 near South Linden Street and East 6th Street after a brief foot pursuit when officers attempted to contact him, Pomona Police said. The robbery occurred around 4:50 a.m. March 1 at Good Tyme Car Wash, 475 E. Mission Blvd. The victim was stopped in his vehicle at the car wash when Lopez arrived in a grey 2006 Nissan Altima, pulled a ski mask over his face and demanded cash. Lopez allegedly exposed the butt of a handgun tucked in his waistband, Pomona Police said. “The victim gave the suspect his wallet and money because he feared for his life,” Pomona Police said.
Lopez was booked on suspicion of armed robbery. Lopez is also being investigated for additional crimes, including kidnapping and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner. Lopez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at Pomona Superior Court Tuesday, March 5. |
