Terrelle Jones, a Los Angeles man, was spotted leaving a party in the 900 block of Val Vista Drive around 9:25 p.m. July 14. Officers with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force conducting gang suppression work knew the party was attended by several gang members, Pomona Police said. Officers followed Jones and watched him until he committed a traffic violation. During a traffic stop, officers learned Jones was on probation for a felony offense with search and seizure conditions, Pomona Police said. The gun was found during a vehicle search. Jones was booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle. The victim, 34-year-old Nathan Ware, was found severely injured by arriving Pomona officers responding to a shooting victim in the 1400 block of Edgehill Drive. Ware was taken to a nearby hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries, said Pomona Police Sergeant Jon Edson. The shooting took place just after 8 p.m. Police discovered that Ware was walking near his home when he was confronted by unknown suspects. Technicians responded to the 100 block of University Parkway around 5:45 p.m. Technicians determined none of the items contained any explosives and there were no suspicious notes attached to them, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No one from the industrial complex was evacuated since it already the end of the work day, Schrader said. Arson/Explosives technicians cleared the scene about 90 minutes later. The girl was rescued from the Holt Avenue Corridor July 11 during a VICE operation conducted by the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force, Pomona Police said. Appropriate resources were contacted to assist the girl. The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed area of town from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, July 14. The DUI saturation patrols will begin Friday at 7 p.m. and conclude at 3 a.m., Pomona Police said. “High Visibility Enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug impaired crashes,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely.” Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Pomona Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Police responding to a collision call found the victim down in traffic lanes on Holt Avenue east of Clark Avenue around 9:31 p.m. Officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters helped the man until he was taken to a nearby hospital, the Pomona Police Department said. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. Alcohol and drugs are not factors in the crash, police said. The boy was hospitalized at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, according to Lt. Ron McDonald of the Pomona Police Department.
