The suspect was stopped just before 12:30 a.m. Friday at Hamilton Boulevard and Muir Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle reportedly had no license plates. The officer searched the suspect vehicle after the officer saw the paraphernalia within, according to the Pomona Police Department. “Officers searched the rest of the car and found suspected methamphetamine and a loaded firearm,” the Pomona Police Department said in a written statement.
Joseph Armienta, A 40-year-old Pomona man, was arrested and booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, Being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – Police reportedly found a loaded 9-millimeter handgun, heroin and methamphetamine during a probation search of a known gang member’s home October 3. Officers with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force searched the home of David “Vago” Valles in the 300 block of Otis Court after contacting him while on patrol. Knowing Valles is a probationer, in addition to being a gang member previously arrested for gun possession, officers conducted a compliance check, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Valles was cooperative during the search. Valles, 41, was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. A handgun also fell out of the waistband of 26-year-old Alex Rodriguez of Long Beach as officers were about to take him into custody after he ran during a traffic stop, Pomona Police said. Officers with the department’s Major Crimes Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a white Kia Sedan in a Claremont hotel parking lot in the 700 block of South Indian Hill Boulevard just before 12:30 a.m. May 7. Officers observed vehicle code violations and decided to pull the driver over.
The Kia was occupied by three gang members and one woman, Pomona Police said. Rodriguez, a rear passenger in the Kia, ran and jumped over a fence to evade police. “As officers were attempting to take him into a custody, a loaded firearm fell out of his waistband and onto the ground. The Officers were able to quickly take him into custody and recover the firearm without incident,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Rodriguez was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm, possession of unregistered firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. The Pomona Police SWAT team and Major Crimes Task Force searched a residence in the 2200 block of Concord Avenue ... a home known for harboring frequent trouble, Pomona Police said. Police detained two men who attempted to run. The men, amongst other occupants found to be drinking alcohol, had concealed handguns, Pomona Police said in a written statement. One of the two men detained, identified as 20-year-old Enrique Renteria of Pomona, was flashing gang signs as officers detained him, Pomona Police said in a written statement.
46-year-old Isidor Mendiola was the second to be detained. 44-year-old Antonio Valadez, the homeowner, had several firearms, magazines and ammunition in his home. Some of the firearms were non-California compliant assault rifles along with outlawed high capacity magazines, Pomona Police said. “Valadez has an extensive arrest history for serious crimes,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Valadez was booked on suspicion of possessing an unlawful assault rifle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property (a firearm), being a felon in possession of ammunition and possession of a high-capacity magazine. Mendiola was booked on suspicion of possession of a concealed/loaded firearm, possession of an unregistered/loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Renteria was booked on suspicion of possession of a concealed/loaded firearm and possession of an unregistered/loaded firearm. Pomona man Joseph Hernandez, 26, was taken into custody for a no-bail warrant. The shooting occurred in the area of East Mission Boulevard between South San Antonio Avenue and South Reservoir Street around 1:30 a.m. Police responded to the scene and a short time later, the unidentified victim wound up at a hospital, according to the Pomona Police Department. Police announced just after 3:30 a.m. that both directions of Mission Boulevard from San Antonio to Reservoir would be closed. They have yet to announce when Mission would reopen. West Covina man Derrick Miller, 34, was approached by officers at Loranne Avenue and Monterey Avenue around 10:18 p.m. Officers believed Miller’s presence suspicious, Pomona Police said. “Miller was in possession of multiple open containers of alcohol. A search of his car revealed a loaded .380 handgun. Also in the car were thirteen ecstasy pills,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “Miller admitted to ownership of the handgun and the street drugs. Miller was found to be a convicted felon as well.”

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Detectives arrested two men March 17 who were accused of violently beating and stabbing a man outside a convenience store in February. 25-year-old Jeremiah Mendez and 24-year-old Fernando Mendez, both Ontario residents, were taken into custody outside their home in the 1800 block of East Fifth Street as they sat an a parked vehicle. The brutal attack occurred outside a convenience store in the 1500 block of N. Indian Hill Blvd. the suspects approached the victim who is standing outside of the store and punched and stabbed him, Pomona Police said.
The victim underwent surgery after surviving the attack, Pomona Police said. Both suspects were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and a criminal street gang enhancement, Pomona Police said. Jeremiah is being held without bail. Fernando is being held in lieu of $2 million bail ahead of a schedule appearance in Pomona superior Court Friday, March 20, According to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police arrested a man Thursday morning after he led them on a pursuit, during which he allegedly tried to dump methamphetamine out his vehicle. Police arrested Jose Luis Cabrera, a 28-year-old known gang member, in the driveway of his home after he fled from officers. Police witnessed Cabrera driving at high speed at White Avenue and Monterey Avenue around 12:17 a.m. March 19, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cabrera refused to stop when officers tried to pull him over and he drove recklessly around the city. Once Cabrera stopped, he struggled with officers who detained him, Pomona Police said.
“It was learned that during the pursuit, Suspect Cabrera made desperate attempts to discard a large quantity of methamphetamine,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “Traces of the drug residue was found spread about the inside of his car. Despite his actions, several grams of methamphetamine were recovered.” A search warrant was served at Cabrera’s home where three firearms, several rounds of ammunition, body armor and a high capacity gun magazine, methamphetamine, marijuana, packaging material and nearly $3,300, Pomona Police said. Cabrera was booked on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a controlled substance for sales and for violating his probation. Additional charges will be filed against the suspect or suspects responsible for the items found during the search, Pomona Police said. Arthur Ramirez, 27, was contacted by the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force in the 2200 block of Concord Avenue March 14. Due to his parolee status, his home in the 700 block of Weber Street was searched, Pomona Police said. A handgun, shotgun and related ammunition were found, Pomona Police said.
Ramirez was booked on suspicion of being e felon in possession of ammunition, being a felon in possession of a firearm and for a parole violation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A probationer with active ties to a neighborhood gang in Pomona was jailed March 11 after confessing to keeping a loaded firearm in his vehicle. Levantte Jovan Johnson, a 20-year-old Ontario man, was stopped for speeding by members of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force who were patrolling known to have drug and gang activity, Pomona Police said. Johnson reportedly was driving in excess of 50 miles per hour on residential streets. He was stopped near Myrtle Street and Second Street around 6:35 p.m., Pomona Police said.
A loaded 9-millimeter handgun was confiscated from the floorboard.
