Evidence of the shooting was found in the 100 block of East Second Street after officers were called to investigate a report of gunfire just before 1:30 a.m. May 8. Soon after, Pomona police dispatch was notified of three shooting victims who arrived in private vehicles to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, according to the Pomona Police Department. Investigators reportedly have not identified a motive, or have identified any suspects. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating. Josue Cervantes, 26, reportedly stole from the 7-Eleven, 1001 E. Grand Ave., previously. The employee recognized Cervantes as he approached around 3:30 a.m. and locked the door to keep him from entering, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was reportedly armed with a rifle and ordered the employee to let him in. Cervantes reportedly opened fire at the employee through the glass. The employee was hit, according to the Pomona Police Department. The employee was hospitalized and is expected to recover. During a follow-up investigation, detectives located a discarded rifle and other belongings nearby. An officer spotted a person who looked like Cervantes. The person was fleeing from the area, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was eventually found hiding in the rear yard of a residence and taken into custody. Cervantes was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of more than $3.1 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court April 22. The illicit goods were discovered with the help of a search warrant. The suspect, Ivan Orozco, fled from officers after they saw him holding an open container of booze in the 300 block of Orchid Lane, according to the Pomona Police Department. “When Officers attempted to contact him he ran towards an open garage. Officers contacted Ivan Cortez Orozco and located a loaded firearm on his person,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Inside the home, officers discovered what they described as a substantial amount of methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials and an undisclosed amount of U.S. money. The loaded firearm was later determined to be stolen, according to the Pomona Police Department. Orozco was booked on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a loaded unregistered firearm and possession of a stolen firearm. Pomona man Joshua “Green Eyes” Perez, 21, will be seeing red after he was booked on suspicion of resisting a peace officer, brandishing a firearm, possessing a leaded and unregistered firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition for his antics Monday. Around 8 p.m. Monday, Pomona officers were called to Angela Street and Chanslor Street after an anonymous tip of a man in a moving vehicle brandishing a handgun at people. A search yielded a suspect vehicle: a white car being driven recklessly. The driver ran a stop sign and abruptly stopped, allowing one occupant to run, according to the Pomona Police Department. A man and woman remained in the vehicle. They were detained by officers while a containment search was setup to find Perez. Officers responded to the 2000 block of Pinehurst Drive on a prowler report and found Perez attempting to hide on someone’s property. Perez was found with a loaded handgun, according to the Pomona Police Department. The other man in the vehicle, 32-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man David Lazaro, was booked on suspicion of a probation violation related to a no-bail warrant, the Pomona Police Department said. A patrol officer, along with his trainee, made the traffic stop March 16 in the area of Seventh Street and White Avenue around 1:26 a.m. The driver was also found to be driving with a suspended license, according to the Pomona Police Department. A backup officer arrived and recognized the driver, Rudy Woo, as an active gang member. “The Officer knew Woo to be an active gang member, convicted felon, on probation, and out on bail from two previous arrests. Based on Woo’s probationary status, Officers explained to him that his car was subject to search, at which point, Woo admitted to possessing a loaded firearm in the car,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Officers also found multiple handgun magazines, ammunition suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, according to the Pomona Police Department. Woo, 43, was booked on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a loaded & unregistered firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Officers with the Pomona Police Department’s Sexual Exploitation & Trafficking Team saw the scantily-clad 26-year-old in the 1000 block of East Holt Avenue March 12. After reportedly witnessing the woman enter multiple vehicles, they determined she was engaged in prostitution. “She was also found to have several outstanding warrants for her arrest. Once in custody, she was also found to be in possession of a loaded firearm concealed in her purse. The firearm was loaded with a high-capacity magazine and the serial number had been removed,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. San Diego woman Deja Nicole Smith was booked on suspicion of loitering with intent to solicit prostitution, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, possession of an unregistered firearm and for outstanding warrants, according to the Pomona Police Department. The arrests and seizure of the weapons were possible after a caller reported gang activity in the 600 block of Roderick Avenue around 8:42 p.m. January 19. Some of the men arrested were documented gang members, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department did not state which of the arrestees were identified as gang members. The location was the scene of a recent drive-by shooting, the Pomona Police Department said. With the help of additional officers, the four men, who were also drinking in publicin and around parked vehicles, were detained. A search of the men and the associated vehicle uncovered the four loaded handguns, the Pomona Police Department said. Arrested were:

Officers attempted to stop the driver for speeding and for having expired tags in the 2400 block of Chanselor Street around 12:40 p.m. When officers caught up to the vehicle, they recognized the occupants as local gang members, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Sergio “Silent” Pinon, fled from officers. He stopped briefly to let his passenger, Juan “Lazy” Rosales, out of the vehicle to flee on foot, according to the Pomona Police Department. Rosales was detained by police. “The suspect driver continued to evade Officers, but eventually abandoned his car and fled on foot as well. The suspect driver was found hiding within an apartment complex laundry room,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. A search of the vehicle Pinon drove revealed a loaded firearm which the suspect admitted to owning, Pomona Police said. Pinon, a San Bernardino man, was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition and felony evading police. Pinion is being held in lieu of $75,000 in the Pomona Police jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court November 9. The shooting occurred just after 12:30 p.m. in the 500 block of East Franklin Avenue, October 2. The suspect confronted the alleged victim on foot, revealed a handgun and attempted to rob him. The suspect was shot. He was eventually detained, treated for injuries and later hospitalized in stable condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspect’s handgun was recovered. It is not yet publicly known what type of vehicle the suspect tried to take from the alleged victim, nor is it publicly clear how the alleged victim came to be armed in the first place. Police declined to name the suspect, but he is facing being booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted carjacking, carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm. Saleena Bryant, 18, was detained and arrested when she tried to flee over a fence after initially refusing to comply with officers commands to surrender. A loaded handgun fitted with a silencer was found in Bryant’s possession, according to the Pomona Police Department. The incident unfolded at a home in the 400 block of West Franklin Avenue around 12:34 p.m. September 12. A family member called 9-1-1 asking for help, reporting the woman was in a rear yard, according to the Pomona Police Department. Family members barricaded in a bedroom until police arrived. “Officers arrived on-scene and immediately established a perimeter around the location. A tactical plan was created and officers were able to safely evacuate all of the family members through a side window,” the Pomona Police Department said in a written statement. Officers found Bryant allegedly hiding in a motor home. She refused to comply with police, but eventually exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, the Pomona Police Department said. Bryant, a Pomona woman, was booked on suspicion of trespassing, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm while not the owner and possession of a silencer. |
