POMONA - The sound of gunfire led to two suspects attempting to flee a Pomona neighborhood Sunday, police said.
Officers with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force were patrolling near Hamilton Boulevard and Monterey Avenue when they heard gunfire. 9-1-1 calls near the 1200 block of West First Street helped officers track down a small black car seen by residents, according to the Pomona Police Department.
The vehicle fled west from the neighborhood. Officers found the occupied vehicle parked outside a known gang house in the 1200 block of West Second Street, Pomona Police said.
“As Officers approached the vehicle they noticed a single shell casing on the ground just outside the passenger front door,” Pomona Police said in a written statement.
Additional shell casings were found inside the car.
Christian Aldrete and Angel Bocanegra, both 18, were arrested. Among the charges they were booked on suspicion of include carrying a loaded firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and removal of a firearm serial number, Pomona Police said.
Both men admitted to firing the handgun, Pomona Police said.
