Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A student was found unresponsive and was later declared dead last week in a dorm room at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Noah Kendrix, 24, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. His cause of death has been deferred pending additional investigation. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched to University Village, 3400 Poly Vista, at 9:54 a.m. February 6. The patient was found possibly already deceased, according to Inspector Henry Narvaez of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. There is no information yet stating how long Kendrix was in the room before he was found. Kendrix was a visual communication design major in the university’s Art Department at the College of Environmental Design. In a social media post, the Art Department briefly eulogized the art student: “This week we say goodbye to Noah Kendrix, a Visual Communication Design Major. You will be missed. Our thoughts go out to Noah’s family.”
Benardo Dargan, associate vice president and dean of students sent the following message to SGV CityWatch: “It is distressing when a member of our community dies, and we are offering support to those who knew him. We ask that people respect the family’s privacy as they travel this terrible grief journey. While the cause of death is a matter for the coroner, we can assure the community that the campus remains safe.” SGV CityWatch obtained an email sent to University Village residents the day of Kendrix’s death. The message was sent to Village residents who may have been curious or greatly concerned about the presence of emergency personnel and vehicles. “We want to assure you that there are no safety concerns for the campus and University Village related to this isolated incident,” according to the email. |
